Live Action Movie Adaptations of Video Games: Like, Love, Hate, or just Ignore?

It's always best to ignore them unless you are the type to enjoy a bad film.

Pyramid head is always welcome. He can kill you with his deadly touch even if you activate infinite health cheat lol.
Other enemies in games may only operate via simple mathematical logic of reducing the value of your health the pyramid head directly sends kill code to your existence!!!! lolol

Excuse me but, wtf. The 2023 Mario Movie is a good movie. Unless you meant to say the 1993 film (which is actually awful), cause the 2023 isn’t live action and is good unlike the ‘93 film. I also think it’s astronomically better than the Sonic movies. And I think the Sonic movies suck.
Well first of all, it wasn't a Mario Bros movie since they sidelined Luigi for most of it. They also went out of their way to make Mario look like a loser while making Peach look awesome in every single scene that she's in. Also, the voice cast was pretty terrible for people like Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong. The movie moved at too brisk a pace and there is hardly any real character development, especially for Peach who is simply portrayed as a perfect Mary Sue.

The final battle was lame. Mario and Luigi had to make themselves invincible with a power up just to beat Bowser which is absolutely lame and would be in any Mario video game too.

Also, the Sonic movies have heart that you just don't feel in that Super Mario Bros. movie. They have poignant scenes in them. The Super Mario Bros. movie never made me feel anything.

The 2023 Mario movie was a C tier movie at best. The Sonic movies are FAR better, especially the third one. The 90s Mortal Kombat movie was a FAR better video game movie than Mario as well as it respected the source material and had the right tone.

So the movie's real name is "Peach and mario and others" lol.

This image really says it all. Who looks like the hero and who looks like the sidekick?

Wow soon Peach will be the one saving Mario from Bowser and they will call it "Super Peach Go Gurrlll!!!" lolol

One of the only ways they can actually be good is if the director or any other person like and actor or producer knows the source material like the back of their goddamn hand 👍

The Sonic movies have no heart. They feel corporate as fuck. I don’t recall any poignant scenes in them. All I remember is terrible humor and bad writing. Also they feel like unofficial fan films than official Sonic movies. Like there are times when it feels like the filmmakers never even played a Sonic game. Shadow being from space and Metal Sonic splitting into multiple copies is proof alone that they have a poor understanding of the games. The cast is also mostly crap. Ben Schwartz is annoying and not funny, Idris doesn’t sound like Knuckles at all, Keanu sounds like he doesn’t want to be there, and James Mardsen doesn’t even try and underacts his scenes. The only one who really tries is Jim Carrey, who is probably the only saving grace these movies have. Too bad they killed Robotnik off. I felt something when I watched the 2023 Mario Movie, I was like, “finally, they didn’t fuck up a video game movie for once!”. I’m tired of hearing people say Peach is a “girlboss” in the Mario movie, because she’s not. I don’t recall any scene where she bullies Mario. Also I think it was a breath of fresh air that Peach wasn’t kidnapped in that movie, because a lot of people, including me were getting tired of the whole “Peach getting kidnapped” format. Also I think you’re forgetting that the movie is an origin story, of course Mario is going to be a bit inexperienced and a “loser” in the film, the Mushroom Kingdom is new to him. Oh and the humor was a million times funnier than the Sonic movie trilogy. As they didn’t do unfunny dated meme references and generic pop culture references unlike the Sonic movies. I still think the 2023 Mario Movie is one of the best films of 2023. Fuck the “professional critics” who gave this film a 52% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sad to see that no one has yet championed the best videogame movie:

I'll occasionally enjoy the campy fun of a 'bad videogame movie'! "Street Fighter" and "Mortal Kombat" totally rule, even though I wouldn't necessarily argue that they're good. They're fun! I also have a soft spot in my heart for the first "Silent Hill" movie. The production design is unequivocally great, and I think there are some good sequences, even if the overall movie is pretty meh.

I don't much care for the "Resident Evil" movies at all, though.

Those that had a hand or at least knows of the source material tends to give great results with the material, The Mario Movie was co-written by Nintendo Staff and it hella shows, by contrast Uwe Bolt seems to think videogames are just what appears in TV and he gave us atrocities like House of The Dead

I’d definitely take him on in a boxing match if he challenged me.

I never get tired of watching this, especially 2:27

I know it's not a movie but what did everyone think of Mortal Kombat Conquest?
