Upfront I wanna say sorry for the rambling. I just kinda wanted to talk about this game and stuff around the topic I was thinking of.

So I hang around the site retro achievements. (For those who don't know, it's a community that give games from yesteryear achievements. Pretty much almost anything pre PS3, 360, Wii Era.) I saw they had a new list for The Little Mermaid on NES.

Typically I avoid NES games, because I want to be able to have a 100% rate for all games I play and the NES achievements can be hard-core, but Little Mermaid was one of my favorite movies as a child so I played it.

Shockingly, it was not as hard as I thought. What games did you all think were gonna be really difficult but was really manageable? Did you play the game I'm talking about.?

Avoiding games you can't 100% is a very painful restriction for basically no gain.

Little Mermaid I played as a kid, a lot.... that one, Super Contra, Turtles and Taiwanese ports of Aladdin to NES were probably most played games on my Famiclone. I heard SNES version is easier, port was slightly kind of hard to control.

From the easy games on NES/Famicom I know of are Monster in My Pocket, one of very few we completed with parents when I was a kid. Also, anything with endless continues, which means Guevara / Guerrilla War. Amazing top-down SNK shooter!

Contras are easy too if you use the 30 life hack or cheat, the game has JUST right balance to be slightly challenging with it, but hardcore without it, one of very few games that limits continues in arcade and is easier on consoles.

Never had a Super Famicom / SNES, but enjoyed it on emulator, what stood out for me were Final Fantasy games on it (they were mostly easy too, esp. compared to ones on NES), and Super Adventure Island 2, which is a very solid quasi-RPG in style of Monster World or Shantae games.

You're probably right. Trying to 100% all my games can be a very trying process at times. Though, I don't feel fully complete if I don't. It's a problem I have.

But turtles. Yes. I played a few TMNT games. The NES one (I believe the first one) is a type of special that you need to see to believe. Those developers hated those kids.

You have fun options in games I must say.

@No-Bo-Dy That is not the version of Little Mermaid I remember

It's one of my childhood favorites, honestly. I haven't played it in a very long time but I remember it well and I really enjoyed it.

I can't think of a genuine retro game off-hand that I expected to be a lot harder than it was, but a retro STYLE game I expected this from is the new indie Rugrats game. It plays, looks, and feels like an NES game... but it couldn't really be easier.

I remember beating it as a kid, those Disney/Capcom games usually are not that hard. You should also try Duck Tales 2, nice difficulty and full of secrets.

@Nidoking Its well put together. Given the fact that license games normally were total trash around that time, it's amazing to see it be all nice and put together. Plus, how can you go wrong with The Little Mermaid.

@DanCalibur Funny thing. I never fully beaten Ducktales. Oh I played it many times sure and I loved it as a child, but never got to beat it. My patience was short even back then I guess xD

But I'll be adding that to the list for sure.

Disney games were like the one type of licensed game that usually even had a shot of being good. Fortunately, this one was.

You know how Disney games are hard ones back then this is the easiest and most accessible for low level players like me.

I guess there is new options in the profile editor. Gotta look at the new options. Nidoking, Sting Perry and Ikagura all have amazing looks.

@Nidoking True. I have not played much in the way of NES games in a while. Very much part of my gaming identity, but what I look for in games, there isn't many on the NES. Mostly, I cannot really deal with not fully beating a game. Some of those NES games demand I pour my blood.

Anyway, going into what you said, yeah. I played most Disney NES games I think. Ducktales is by far my favorite. Typical, I know. But that game is just so amazing. Been forever since I played Darkwing Duck. Rented it at a grocery store. Never played Chip and Dale.

Most of them were developed by Capcom so that helps a lot. Nice profile btw. My eyes dazzle seeing it.

@Stingy Perry Agree. It feels very manageable. It's like Megaman that way. It can demand harder challenges of you but you can go to do the simple stuff. Of course Megaman is very different from Little Mermaid, but still.

@Ikagura Hm.
