Hello !

i've made myself a little raspberry os based on linux ( debian i think )

i'd like to know what are your favorite " exclusives " linux games ? i heard the tux games are kinda fun.

do you have some gems you would recommend ?

( raspeberry pi 3b, so not a powerhouse !, and i'd like to keep it focused on " exclusives " as i've already other computers to run big games )

At least in my experience, I haven't come across any good games that are exclusive to Linux, most of their exclusives are dead FPS or puzzles with graphics from 30 years ago. My recommendation is to install Lutris or PlayOnLinux and download windows games, whether pirated or from Steam.

i don't know about exclusives, but there are Linux versions of a lot of computer games. Indies and fan games especially.

I don't know. You could play through the "bsdgames" collection. Lot of very influential games in there, such as Hunt the Wumpus. That game has been cited as the grandfather of survival horror, such as Silent Hill. Not really exclusive either, though.

The repository of your choice should have a good selection of games. Might be a start to just search for "game" in there.

i dont think linux (and more broadly floss) philosophy embraces "exclusivity" as a principle. therefore, while it's not impossible, it's very rare to see something made "just" for linux... floss is not about monopolies.

SuperTuxKart. Sure, it isn't AAA High-Quality, but it's great for a Linux-Exclusive. I do believe there is a Windows version, so it isn't really exclusive, but lets be fucking for real here, your ass ain't playing fucking SuperTuxKart on Windows 11.

gentoo of course. it's the dark souls of linux ;)
Linux from scratch

OpenRA, OpenMW, Tons of Source Ports to play, The Battle for Wesnoth, Endless Sky

Xscreensaver? Not a game, but I'm sure it will NEVER be ported to windows due to it's creator's past with MS.

Could this be a thread about Libre & Open Source games?

Honestly I didn’t played much of those though, mostly because I’ve been into emulation.

Some notable examples I could share:
- id Software Doom and Quake are Open Source and free, there are numerous forks;
- some classic games have been re-implemented from scratch with libre engine, such as Heroes of Might and Magic II and Warcraft, just add resource files;
- libre clones of popular games exist: FreeCiv (Civilization), Oolite (Elite)
- good “pure blend” games could be Sauerbraten (Cube 2), MegaGlest, Warzone 2100

Which libre games do you like, folks?

There's quite a few roguelikes that fall under this category. Nethack, Angband, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, BrogueCE, Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead and Pixel Dungeon are some of the bigger ones.

Take a look through the gaming section on Flathub for a bunch of open source games or open source engines for non open source games.
