Master System Let's talk about Sega Master System games

So, somebody is porting Castlevania to the Master System.

Yeah, it's the same guy doing Phantasy Star 2.

Hopefully they finish the game at all.

The guy doing it has been working on TMNT and Castlevania, a lot of it looks like assets being converted over to SMS moving around too fast in a basic demo.

Same guy threw together youtube tutorials on how to build games with devkitSMS.

In this thread, I find it important to add this:
SMSPower.org: the ultimate fansite for SEGA’s 8-bit legacy!

It’s been running since 1997, has everything you could ever want for any and all of SEGA’s 8-bit systems, does research and journalism on SEGA’s 8-bit systems, and is about the most dedicated fansite for SEGA that I’ve ever seen.

Have fun!

Genesis & the SGDK has been on fire for years with commercial releases.

Saturn got solid emulation, ODEs, a cheap flash cart, a good FPGA core, game engines, SRL, dozens of game translations, netlink support hacks.

Dreamcast got more of the same, work on a different ODE, new commercial homebrew, translations, ports of Atimoswave games, new ports of big N64 decompilations. VMU Pro is out now for developers to play with.

SMS/GG has the least about of buzz and hype around it despite easy tools to make assets, and devkitSMS being available.

Seems like everybody would rather be making games and tools for Gameboy, NES, PlayDate, C64 derivative 8bit computers, Pico8, GameTank, etc.

I think the popularity of the NES over the SMS (and the GB over the GG) is for something.

That is so cool. I love older websites like this that are still up and running. Gotta love the dedication!
