I absolutely loved the first one (specially the fact that they had added local, split-screen multiplayer at a time when that was starting to phase out), but I never heard anyone talk about the rest of the series after that, despite being active on gaming circles.

I seem to recall a spinoff that people were sorta pleased with, but that's about it.

Is there any reason for this "radio silence"? Has the series lost its steam or I was just not paying enough attention? A quick Google search shows me half-a-dozen titles under its belt, so maybe it really is on me.

That said, even ultra fans of the original didn't talk to me about sequels and junk, which I find... Interesting to say the least.

Anyway, please discuss.

2 was like the most popular game on earth for a little while there I feel like.
The only one I got when it was new was the first game, and I remember liking it. Playing 2 with my friends (like a decade ago) was a nightmare because they just wanted to grind those special golden chests in the hub area, so I never got far at all in it, but I reinstalled it just the other week to play it on my own.

I don't really care about the franchise as a whole though. I thought Tiny Tina's Wonderlands looked kinda fun but nobody wanted to buy it to try so it never happened, and 4 looks alright too. I played 3 for like two hours but couldn't justify the gigantic filesize compared to other games I wanted to play at the time. I hear the gameplay is excellent but the writing is mute-worthy.

I only have/have played the second game. I got it for free from a Reddit giveaway. Tended to get lucky from those. Haven’t played it for long because I was juggling some other games back then like Sunset Overdrive, Sleeping Dogs, Yakuza 0, Guilty Gear Strive, Etrian Odyssey II HD, etc but from what I played, it was pretty fun.

I can never get into the games. I actually don't like the humor much in them. Cool character designs snd artwork, but not for me.

Its not that it lost steam, its more like it never evolved, the biggest problem with Borderlands is how samey the gameplay gets, and the fact it barely changes at all between games, makes it very tedious to play, completely deterring you from playing them back to back, because it gets old very quick. Many times, you start to play the game with friends, then get bored with how repetitive the loop is.

The telltale spin-off was very liked, mostly due to it finally being a refreshing change (I liked the first Tales from the Borderlands).

It didn't help, that the games suffers a lot from the worst examples of millennial writing, and some of the most insufferable characters in existence, whom just won't shut the fuck up.

Also the movie, which sucks.

I loved 1 and 2, played Pre-Sequel and it's just okay, haven't try 3 and 4.
Just my opinion, I think it's because for every sequel the original four Vault Hunters slowly having less and less focus, it's hard for people to get attached to new guys every single time, that doesn't work well on a media which has huge comedy tone. 2 done it well with Handsome Jack but now it's gotta be a challenge to top him off, that's like asking Hollywood to make a new character to replace Steve Urkel on Family Matters.

I remember playing the first one. For some reason when I played it I thought it was going to be like Fallout 3. I ended up finding it kind of boring and never finished it. But, I don't think I ever really gave it a fair chance because I was expecting a different kind of game when I played it.

Doesn’t help that every villain before and after Jack is a huge nothing burger. The chick from the first game had practically no role and no one remembers her. The other villains I don’t think I hear anyone bring up. They need to study pretty much anything and everything to make a good villain ngl.

......Borderlands has other villains beside Jack?

One big reason I can think of as to why a lot of people don't care about the series past its second entry is that Randy Pitchford and Gearbox have a long history of scandals and very shady practices.

They’re so minor that they’re practically minibosses.
The first miniboss of Sonic 3 would probably make a better villain :loldog

Well my experience with it has been short, I could joke about the writing but in all fairness that's what they're going on so hating on it is just forced to me. But from what I played, and if you know me if there's one thing I dislike is damage numbers filling my screen and tacky RPG mechanics on action games and this game is basically that. Also I don't care about purple vibrant loot with min/max numbers.

So when I shot someone in the head, saw a big number pop up and the dude was still standing I closed the game.

But there's a market for this and my friend enjoys it a lot so it is how it is.

I will say that the art style is very cool, I can recognize some characters even and that's solid visual identity.

First one was okay it was also the only one i finished, everything else was terrible
Second game seems to be the most popular for some reasons, i tried it two times and both times dropped it really early, cant stand that writing
Third game seems to be much worse and last one pure garbage, but i can't be bother to try it

Wanna know why randy pitchford does the shady things he does?

Same here, actually -- I thought that looked great, but couldn't afford it nor find anyone willing to give it a go, then I forgot even its damn name lol.

Also... Now thar you guys mention it, I only recall two bosses out of the whole thing. Like, damn.

Love the first game, dislike the rest. The more it became a grating comedy game, the more I lost interest. I also feel like it's pretty much out of steam. It's time for Gearbox to move on and do something new like they did with Borderlands when Brothers in Arms was getting a bit long in the tooth.

The Calypso twins are decent from what I hear. I saw a few clips of them, and I didn't find them that terrible. Of course, people love making fan art of the sister.

Borderlands 2 was the best in the franchise by far, no new game has ever surpassed it, so people just stopped caring about new games.
