SHIT IM A FUCKING DUMBASS AND LEFT THE GAME ON THE SAVE SCREEN NOT REALZING THE TIMER WAS STILL RUNNING. now when i load my save it just instantly game overs.... T_T guess I gotta do it all over again?????

I'm gonna see if i can reset the time in a save editor. As long as I set it to what it was before its not reallyyy cheating. besides i dont got the time to replay the whole thing until that point

So I ended up fixing the hardlock. It wasn't too hard, I just moved my save to a usb using my modded ps2, and edited the save in a program called Hyne. I set the timer to the value it was BEFORE i left my console on irresponsibly.

Anyway, it's time to leave this damn place.

So i spent way too damn long trying to fight this thing, im not proud of how much time i spent on it. I was pretty sure it was unbeatable but i wanted to really find out. After all I literally just got done beating a really beefy and apparently optionally beatable boss. Alas, this POS full heals every few turns or so, and I can barely put a dent in him. You're not supposed to fight this guy. You're supposed to beat on him til he breaks down and then GET THE FUCK OUTTA THERE.

He chases you down on the overworld and you can escape a few encounters if you're smart. Fighting this guy is a pain. You just keep slapping him until you can run away, and it takes a while.​

I'm pretty proud of myself for clearing the bridge scene without running into him.Its a straight shot, so he tries to throw a curveball by jumping around. I was smarter than that, and my stubbornness earlier had meant i had little time left.​

It was tense. I had wasted so much time, I was worried i'd have to do it over. But I did it. I outran him.

That boss IS beatable but make no mistake - it takes a lot of game knowledge and preparation to do so. Not like there's much of a reward for doing it either. You get an alternate cutscene when you get to the beach which is admittedly a nice touch and 50 AP for your GFs iirc.

Can't overlevel with every enemy based on party average level

- Draw all the magic you can early on
- Make sure to always, ALWAYS set the ability your GF is learning. I like to start with Stat-Junction abilities, they're always the top and first on the list (HP-J, STR-J, etc.)
- Junction all your strongest magic spells (having 100 of each) to your Strength, to deal massive damage with regular attacks. After Strength, you can add status effects or elementals, but don't forget to up your defense too, if you can.

Absolutely do not overlevel. FF8 will punish you for that. You have to use other mechanics to get better thunder spells than you're supposed to at that point. The card skill on one of your GFs. It's tedious af and not much fun.

I'd say you should just enjoy the game for now without looking into breaking it.

Also fun to see you playing this part of the game. In many ways, knowing how junctioning works makes the game too easy as you can give yourself insane stats really early on by using the right spells on the right stat.

Going in semi-blind like this for your first time is deffo the way to go!!! Thank god you escaped the soft lock lmao

X/X-2 and Vii supposedly do according to someone who worked on X/X-2 but the main series head has poo-pooed it. Still my head canon that little kid Shinra started the company from 7 after travelling to a different planet from Spira.

I'd be down to see it! I often worry i dont have much to say about things but just seeing a different perspective can be fun. In my video LPs i like to infodump, but its not exactly obscure information i talk about. its all about the experience of it all coming together, the personality, the commentary, the formatting.

Hey everyone!!! Welcome back to Final Fantasy VIII!!!

As we pull out of that awfully dangerous school exam, we find ourselves In the comfy resort town of Balamb.
There's even a giftshop here!

After getting some souvenirs and staying at the deluxe hotel, I find myself in the mood for... A game of cards. It only makes sense right? After all, the Queen of Cards is here!

I've yet to play triple triad thus far.
But y'all have been telling me I should be playing it so here I go!

Y'know what they say, desperate times call for desperate measures.
Sure, savescumming like this is KINDA cheating, and sure it also wastes a lot of my time buuut.
I don't have many cards to afford to give up at this point.. I'll prob be less cheap later in the game.
Besides, i'm using these failures as a teaching tool.

So I've gotten the hang of it better. To be honest when I first played I just winged it. But after reading the tutorial and doing some "test matches" i've gotten the very basic hang of triple triad. It's something between Pokémon and Reversi. Pretty simple on the face of it, but it can be really easy to get screwed over.

Alright, I've spent enough time here, let's go home.
We rented a car for... a lot of gil. (not like car rentals aren't cheap in the real world I guess ^^; )

Now that we're back at school its time to see who passed the exam.

Something about her feels very important, I mean she's in the fucking logo after all. I'm so curious what this mysterious girl is hiding.

I'm gonna close out this part with footage of a frankly, beautiful FMV. Gotta say, this game actually does mocap pretty well. A lot of early mocap games can look a bit uncanny but the animation in this game is just beautiful.

After the "Patayy" Quistis asks me to follow her to the training area after hours.
For what reason, who knows?

I meet up with her, and she tells me about the horrible monster known as T. Rexaur. So I guess she called me here to kill a dinosaur?? Man, It's late, I'm tired and you want me to kill a whole ass T-Rex? To make matters worse there's even more tutorials. Quistis teaches me how to junction statuses onto my weapons, which is admittedly pretty cool. Now I have a BIT more of a hang of the junction system, the tutorials don't bother me too much.

After the preparations are complete we engage in a glorious battle. A long one too. A long, glorius battle. More Shiva spam than you could ever imagine. I'm glad I figured out this guy is weak to cold.
But it seems like this dinosaur wasn't our "main attraction". As we make it to the next room my eyes are caught by the absolutely stunning scenery. It's midnight as I'm playing so the vibes are well-matched.



Quistis informs me that she's no longer an instructor, and has become a simple foot soldier like Squall. I can tell this news fills her with a lot of grief. I admit so far she's been my least favorite party member because most of her screentime has just consisted of telling me what to do, but I can't help but feel bad for her.



And Squall doesn't really seem to care.




On our way out, we save this girl. After taking down a T-Rex, this bug is no sweat.



Man, what a dick.


Well, Squall's edginess aside, it's time to be on our way. We meet up with our buddies Zell and Selphie!!



Zell makes his grand entrance on his T-Board, only for it to promptly get confiscated. Y'know those are against the rules, right?

Now we're in SeeD we don't have to wear any dumb uniforms.
I'd say we look pretty snazzy!

We're on our way to our next mission, just the 3 of us. But before that, i've got an hour or two of fucking around to do. Before we leave we're given this Magic Lamp. Its item description specifically says to save before using it so I took the hint. Let's see what this thing holds...

I really wanted to beat this guy but it was no use. I'll try him again whenever I get my hands on wind magic. I spent the rest of my session playing a shit ton of triple triad soooo. Tune in, next episode of Final Fantasy VIII we venture on to Timber!!!​

I cried while plying FFVII because I realized I spent $102.07 (in 9/2025 monies) on this piece
of poop. I was 23 mom and dad weren't springing for my games like in the 2600 days.
EVEN WORSE I bought FF7 instead of Symphony of the Night which is the best game of all time.
