View attachment 136101I meet up with her, and she tells me about the horrible monster known as T. Rexaur. So I guess she called me here to kill a dinosaur?? Man, It's late, I'm tired and you want me to kill a whole ass T-Rex? To make matters worse there's even more tutorials. Quistis teaches me how to junction statuses onto my weapons, which is admittedly pretty cool. Now I have a BIT more of a hang of the junction system, the tutorials don't bother me too much.

After the preparations are complete we engage in a glorious battle. A long one too. A long, glorius battle. More Shiva spam than you could ever imagine. I'm glad I figured out this guy is weak to cold.
But it seems like this dinosaur wasn't our "main attraction". As we make it to the next room my eyes are caught by the absolutely stunning scenery. It's midnight as I'm playing so the vibes are well-matched.

Quistis informs me that she's no longer an instructor, and has become a simple foot soldier like Squall. I can tell this news fills her with a lot of grief. I admit so far she's been my least favorite party member because most of her screentime has just consisted of telling me what to do, but I can't help but feel bad for her.

We're on our way to our next mission, just the 3 of us. But before that, i've got an hour or two of fucking around to do. Before we leave we're given this Magic Lamp. Its item description specifically says to save before using it so I took the hint. Let's see what this thing holds...

He is beatable you just need to try hard enough , Diablos is a GOATED GF he is very important for selphie at this point and will help later on i won't tell you what he does but he kicks ass in every way imaginable.

In this thread I will play through Final Fantasy VIII on the PSX for the first time, while posting occasional updates. I'm playing on original hardware on my trusty Xstation, so no save states and yeah, the footage is gonna look a little crusty.
I've already played like 2 hours in so ill do my best to sum up the beginning (I spent most of it lost in the beginning area >_<)

The Game starts with a super cool FMV cutscene, So far my favorite thing about the game. There's this guy I later learned was named Squall (I'm using the default names) he likes this girl I guess, and he doesn't like this asshole guy (named Seifer) who cuts him in the face. Cool intro but no clue what to make of it. Judging by how the logo consists of Squall and that girl hugging, I guess that's the main crux of this game, not sure how though.

After we beat Ifrit, the exam was through. A bunch of shit happens and we're on our first mission. Seems like this school is some sort of military school, so into the warzone it is.

I'm fine with gameplay tips. I'd rather hear tips from people online than read a walkthrough. I assume it has something to do with wind magic? I casted scan on him and it said he was weak to it

Blind him.
Without his physical attacks he can only use Demi which literally cannot kill you.

You can also draw demi from him and use it to clear like 1/4 of his health in one hit, then you can just keep chipping away and healing/rezzing yourself when an attack squeaks by, and re-blinding him when it wears off.

It takes ages but his health scales with your level or stats (can't remember which) so he ain't getting easier lmao

Today we're taking the luxurious train from Balamb to Timber.



Selphie and Zell are super excited to board. What can I say,
it's a huge train with no one in it to bother us,
it's practically a big moving house!

We head into the hotel and... Something feels wrong. It just doesn't feel right. Like something is incorrect. Ward said he feels similar. There's been this weird buzzing since we arrived in Timber.

oh man, its been a while. got a little too lazy to post over the holidays ^^;
My keep up of gameplay to postings has not been balanced, but i will still try to keep them synced up, as not to skip over things.

I did finally capture Diablos (thanks for the tip, @ThatOneLum !!!) for all the ff7 i played i never quite got what all the various status effects did... What can i say, the game was easy enough i mostly just mashed through it. But I now know blinding/darkness is like tears in the MOTHER series. Because I'm mostly focusing on physical for him, I Junctioned blind to Zell's physical attack, as well as an elemental chance.

We've finally made it to Timber. As I'm welcomed, I'm asked for the password. Gotta admit... I wish the password was the one about the Chocobos... I miss those guys.
The Owls are still around.
We're lead into the train and introduced to the Forest Owls.
Zone, of the Forest Owls mentions something about their Princess. I guess she knows what we gotta do.​

...And it's her! The Princess is that girl from the party!
After all this time i finally catch her name, Rinoa. Gonna be honest, didn't take her as a revolutionary... Or a princess either I guess. She said she heard about us through Seifer...
Man I hate that guy.
Rinoa joins our party. She's got a dog named Angelo that can do all kindsa tricks. We can teach him different tricks to use as her limit break.

And so the plan is...


Incredibly complicated.

Well, not really. It's moreso another case of this game showing
its vendetta for hands-on learners again. Rinoa explains a shit ton about this epic train heist, but in the end it's really just a few mini-games.



After some train-tomfoolery, we make it into the Galbadian President's train car.
No, we're not sabotaging the train to assassinate him, we just wanna talk some sense into him, after all he's totally screwed Timber over.




Seems like the Galbadian bastards are one step ahead of us though.
While we were putting our decoy president into the other train car to trick the soldiers into thinking our heist never happened, it turns out the president in the "real" traincar wasn't the president at all. This weird fuckin' guy keeps biting me and my teammates. We didn't come here to kill anyone, but then again, we did come prepared. After we wack him a few times he... transforms.



Honestly, how many WTFs can i fit into one LP?

Gotta say, this was probably the hardest fight for me yet. He throws a ton of statuses onto you, and he can really pack a punch.

He's even grosser in the original Japanese release!

So our mission was a bit of a failure. I'm glad we made it out alive, but it is disappointing. Now that they've caught on to our scheme, the streets of Timber are flooded with Galbadian soldiers. Fuck. The citizens aren't too happy at us for this.
