GBC Less Known GameBoy or GameBoy Color Games?

I really haven’t explored much of the GameBoy scene, so I feel like I don’t know of many original games for the GameBoy. I would love to know more games that are interesting.

The only one that I own that I might call a “hidden gem” is Pocket Bomberman. It’s an action puzzle game with platforming, and it’s one of the better single player campaigns the Bomberman series has to offer. It’s probably not THAT unknown, and might even be considered by some to be a popular game.

Are there any great games on GameBoy that are system exclusive, but are hardly talked about? Bonus points if they’re their own IP, not connected to a larger series or a tie in to an existing brand.

Yeah, Pocket Tales! It seems more like an adventure game.

I had a lot of fun with these as a kiddo:

Bill & Ted and Bubble Ghost are puzzle games - and surprisingly good ones! Cosmo Tank is more of an adventure / dungeon crawler. All three are certainly worth a look

And if you're looking for some RPG fun, the two Sword of Hope titles are a good time, too!

This game is actually special because it's possibly the only instance of a GBC game and the backwards compatible mode being two completely different games

...both are bad but still cool

Have you tried Cave Noire? It's a neat little roguelike. I also like Little Magic, a cute Sokoban-style puzzler.

It's pretty fun and challenging and has mercifully short passwords.

This is a stupidly good game! One of many Pac-Mac ripoffs from the 80s, but the Game Boy version is maybe the best of all of them. Excellent recommendation

It's one of the MANY games that I heard about through Mark of Classic Game Room and later enjoyed through Emulation (same for Death Duel)

Avenging Spirit is also a good one

I also cannot overstate my genuine love for Game & Watch Gallery 2. It completely encompassed everything I loved about the Gameboy; pure simple fun

Actually played "Ghostbusters 2" on GB a couple times. Fun game. Plays exactly like HAL's Ghostbusters 2 for NES.

Die Maus is a cute little isometric puzzle game with a killer soundtrack.

Another one with a sick soundtrack is Ekkusu (or just X but you'll get results instantly if you weebify it)
It's kinda neat as it's a rare attempt at making a "3D" game on the Gameboy.
