Anyone else here into Lemon Demon?
My girlfriend got me into him. Kind of like a more angular They Might Be Giants (or a less wonky Logan Whitehurst), with deeply poetic surrealist lyrics drawing from a romanticism in the banal, and the frequent splash of folk horror. Perhaps hinting that the two are intertwined. Holy shit guys is Lemon Demon secretly Boards of Canada?!?!?!?!?111?!?!?!?

But for real, Lemon Demon fits the vibes of this forum so well. I can't be the only one!

He made Potter Puppet Pals funnily enough lol, good artist, kinda wish he’d collab with like Prettifun or something.

i've had a spirit phone cassette lying around for years now. my brother who's more in that circle of things has used it for clout to show off to their friends who are way more obsessed with neil's stuff

I have kind of a tender affection for old Neil. He really is, in the purest form of the word, what I'd consider an "internet celebrity", straight from the buggering genesis of all internet schlock, the Something Awful forums. So much of the stuff he's made has been so notable and prominent in internet video, and I like everything I've ever seen from him – The Ultimate Showdown, the eBaumsworld song, Potter Puppet Pals, Brodyquest, that Little Mermaid parody video, et cetera. Spirit Phone is a great album, too – I used to listen to Touch-Tone Telephone pretty religiously a few years back, and I have some good memories of enjoying the whole album on afternoon walks.

I listened to a (now, sadly, lost) podcast interview with Neil some time ago, and he seems like a legitimately decent, creative person who just likes making weird, funny stuff for the internet, and I certainly can't fault him for that. I kind of like the "quaintness" of his work, too (and I mean that in a completely non-condescending way) – it's nerdy in a very cute way, which is tough to do without being insufferable, but he does it. And he's been doing it for, gosh, like twenty years at this point? Maybe more? I'm not his biggest fan on the planet, but I've certainly never seen any reason to dislike him. Neil, if you're reading, let's get together and I'll buy you a beer.

I don't listen to all of his stuff. But No Eyed Girl and Sweet Bod are both tracks I listen to frequently. Turning body horror into cleverly done love songs is something I would expect from the guy who made Ultimate Showdown, weirdly enough.

Anytime a friend describes a movie or TV show to me, I always begin thinking about Jaws.

Bump because I work long hours, but this was extremely well put. I think a lot of nerd rock and in the end nerd culture puts me off because it can often have an air of superiority. That in ones niche interests, they're better than all the normies who just wouldn't understand. Consequently these people also tend to lack all the interesting knowledge of kinder nerds. Fashionable nerds maybe?
I dunno man, I'm the kind of nerd too busy with real anxieties to harbor any ill will to most. Too in love with my interests to wanna keep them to myself
Neil has no contempt in his work, at least none I can sense. It feels so genuine and positive, in a way that most geek music feels contrived. I can't help but fall in love and resonate. It helps that the songs are all absolutely brilliant, too.

..and may I never have to type the word nerd again..
