Whoever uploaded Legacy of the Wizard, I love you. I wasn't sure where or who I was supposed to thank. I will give the rom hack a go. I didn't even know this game was part of a series. But it's always been the cutest game with the best music. I can't remember where I (we? Cause I for sure played this with a lot of people) got this. But it's a great game, and I am happy to see it here.

Thanks again!

Legacy of the wizard is part of nihon falcom's Dragon Slayer series, which ended with dragon slayer 8: the legend of xanadu.

After that, the game that is most commonly related to the dragon slayer series is The Legend of Heroes series, which are mostly turn based rpg's, Dragon Slayer 6 was the first Legend of Heroes game, though ys, also made by falcom, could be considered more similar to the dragon slayer games like legacy of the wizard.

The order of dragon slayer games is as follows:

Dragon Slayer (never translated i believe)
Dragon Slayer 2: Xanadu (original untranslated i believe, the pc version of the sequel Xanadu Next however is).
Dragon Slayer 3: Romancia (a few versions have been translated including the NES version).
Dragon Slayer 4: Drastle Family (legacy of the wizard in the west, aka the game your glad was put here).
Dragon Slayer 5: Sorcerian (only the DOS version was translated, though is easy to find if you look hard enough for it).
Dragon Slayer 6: The legend of Heroes (Breakout hit of the series, every game but 2 is translated in the series in some form, though even 2 seems to have a translation patch in the works).
Dragon Slayer 7: Lord Monarch (genesis version has a fan translation)
Dragon Slayer 8: The Legend of Xanadu (never translated, but the second game supposedly has a translation in the works).

Love Legacy of the Wizard. Played it all the time as a kid even though I could never figure out how to get very far in the game. I even managed to pick up a Famicom copy of Dragon Slayer 4 a couple years ago at a retro game convention.

First few times I played LotW I couldn't figure out what to do or where to go. Then, one day, my dumb ass finally noticed the very first ladder to descent into the dungeon. Yes, I was wandering back-and-forth between the cabin and the outside of the castle. SOMEHOW I beat the game, though a great deal of blood, tears, and no broken controllers (because back then those things were made out of 100% Nintendium).

...

...Then I looked through back issues of Nintendo Power and found both the poorly drawn map on how to find the Crowns AND the awkward 128-lives code. I love Legacy of the Wizard. It's a mind-boggling puzzle with one of the best end credits music on the NES.
