Humans are already stupid can´t become more dumb than they are. I mean we kill each other over fucking DIRT and printed paper.

It can always get worse and AI will definitely help with that.
The AI we have today's is on such a basically level it can´t even do what we tell it right. Before we get to Terminator level which seams is what every one fears humans will gone extinct before that happens.

The AI we have today doesn't bother me but the one we will have in 5 to 10 years does; Also, humanity survived thing like the "Black Death/bubonic plague" and the "Spanish flu" etc, so yes, humans will be very alive and well by the time AI becomes Skynet.

This is much to do about nothing. It is very similar to in the 1980's they starting using sequencers
and mini moogs (basically music computers) to make music and everyone was up in arms. This is going to eliminate musicians they said, well its 40 years later and while modern music sucks balls there still are plenty of musicians

Or Roland was trying to hype up the 303 to be a replacement bass players? Or how Drum Machines were positioned as a alternative to hiring a studio drummer. Hasn't yet killed off drummers or bass players yet.

What AI is capable of doing or not doing and the future of AI is pretty easy to understand.

#1 - It's not possible for cognitive, strong AI to spontaneously generate itself out of some mess of code.

Anything resembling AI with it's own motivations and agency will have to be built out of the equation of a human artificially giving it a prime objective like reproducing more of itself and then latching numerous other training networks for sight identification, movement, lockpicking, whatever, onto that main code.

This means the future of AI only comes in two forms: automated weapons and an AskJeeves butler servant that may or may not have arms and legs attached to it to accomplish said task. There's no actual thinking going on anywhere.

AI's best strength is pattern recognition, so it's most monumental uses will probably be something like showing it a long clip of the surface of the sun and it cycling through variations of equations until it has one that explains what it sees, thus winding up discovering some new law of physics in the process.

Then people will probably spend eons trying to figure out how to record or feed the networks quantum data to analyze and hit a roadblock. You could either have large physics advancement or a brick wall. Things like biology, genome, dna, can be analyzed by AI without problems like this. So artificial biology could take a resident evil detour pretty fast. Or it will spit out a genome resembling a grey alien if you hatch it and just say, "this is the most optimized."

AI is like wanking. Eventually everyone cops to it.

Except me.

It's nice to want things. She'll be put out of work by AI and have tons of time to do laundry and dishes. 😭 Whether she likes it or not, it's here. Even if the "AI bubble" comes, that won't be the end of AI just like the dot-com bubble wasn't the end of the internet.

Two of the biggest hits of the year, Clair Obscure and Arc Raiders, used AI. Granted, the devs of Claire Obscure did a bit of a mea culpa after the vocal minority made enough noise.

nooo dont say bad things about my waifu creator my love my true love is ai
world destroyed or not who cares i wanna be with my love
you all evil for trying seperating me and love dont be racist ::koishigun
ai is future its my future ::yay

I think there's a big gap between people like Larian using AI for mundane tasks, and some incompetent studio using it to make shit like this instead of hiring professionals for it.

I wasn't going to play it before, but now I'm double not buying it! ::winkfelix
As someone who barely consumes any modern media the AI debate doesn't really affect me. However I do get a vague sense of satisfaction knowing that I was right to abandon it. AI wasn't the reason but it sure is the cherry on top.

if you're talking about how AI is being used in this particular game, I really don't care. Yes I did see that they aren't using it in the creative process, but other companies will not be so generous. I was more so speaking overall.

In my honest opinions talk about AI should be taboo just like how politics are on this site.
Because like politics every one has different strong opinions and very littler understanding of the topic in question they just parrot what access media tells them.

And just like with politics don´t like it then ignore it and interact with what you like instead of spreading false information and hate on something you don´t understand.

Concerns about plagiarism are the important part.
Where the graphics and stuff originated, doesn't impact the actual mechanics of gameplay.

It would be hard to do.
You would have to ban all AI on the site. Some users would have a big problem with that. Not to mention hard to enforce.

Hot topic but this'll become increasingly common. Games cost too much money and take too many years to make nowadays. While gamers will be dragged kicking and screaming into the AI present and future, most will eventually accept its inevitability.
When you're reading salacious headlines and articles the trick is to only read the factual information given and discard the rest. So, "games cost too much" has no substantiation. Further, "AI will make it cheaper to make games" is equally unproven. "This will happen increasingly" when it hasn't happened in the present is again another non statement as the CEO even admits he's not using it for the given project. But, in reference to his actors playing with ideas, which is all about AI can do at the moment. Produce goofy and largely worthless results without an accompanying degree of fraud involved. Either via plagiarism or false advertisement.

The only factual statement the CEO made was this.
Although the CEO says the technology hasn't led to big gains in efficiency
The rest and lead into the article is an effort to contradict this lone statement of fact with hot air.

For once we agree on something ::peacemario
If somebody can convince me AI isn't a wholly criminal enterprise I'd be impressed. So far I've yet to see it used for anything other than fraud. The very nature of its GUI is misleading and predatory in how it interfaces with the user. And, has been proven as such in studies both informal and medically related. The thing appears to be pure digital cancer.

I really have a hard time understanding AI use in creative decisions because their advice is almost universally terrible and unhelpful. Every time I cave and try to ask ChatGPT or Claude to give suggestions for, say, video edits, they just spit back a bunch of nothing. You're supposed to do all this crap with Agents and having it ask you questions but at that point I feel like the classic rubber duck solution could do the same trick better. As for mundane tasks, if you're using AI to do them, perhaps consider if that task is useful at all. Why make AI powerpoints? If they're that tedious, why not find a different solution? But I don't manage a AA (maybe even AAA now) Developer or some similarly large company, so maybe I don't understand the workflow there.
I also think it's pretty funny he admits that despite his pushing for it, there hasn't been much change in efficiency, lmao. I could see if he was talking about animation work or some kind of texture-upscaling process, but the generative AI all the big names are pushing isn't super useful, at least in a game dev context. Unless Larian decides to start vibe-coding everything ::crack-bandicoot

Considering how much influence AI has as a technology its kinda hard not to talk about politics when discussing AI and it's impact on the tech world. Personally I would love a blanket Gen AI ban but I dont make the rules. I do think that these AI discussion threads don't really tend to go anywhere though...
