Langrisser vs fire emblem isn't really a good comparison, as they have different systems and tones, with langrisser being fairly brutalistic and realistic while fire emblem being more fantasy, though fire emblem can get a bit dark at times too as well, it rarely reaches the level of langrisser in tone, though both are tame in comparison to say, vandal hearts.

I prefer langrisser myself (like both however) but again it's not a good comparison, as they have different feels imo, it's like comparing final fantasy tactics/tactics ogre to fire emblem, they scratch a different itch imo.

It's a tactical rpg that's come highly recommended to me, i haven't had a chance to try it myself but the person who suggested it to me is a tactical rpg fanatic and loved fire emblem.
The dev of the game seems to make good tactical rpg's in general, checking their previous games.
Interesting, I always figured Langrisser & Fire Emblem were pretty close in gameplay, Langrisser always seemed closer to FE than FF Tactics or Tactics Ogre are. I'm surprised to hear it's just as different as those other two.

And Kingsvein looks cool, I'll keep my eye on it for sure.

Langrisser is almost like Advance Wars with RPG mechanics. Unit health and power are tied together and represented by individual soldiers, and it's sort of like you have the CO Units from Advance Wars Days of Ruin except multiple of them.

There's also Shining Force on Sega Genesis, Game Gear, and Saturn which are a bit closer to Fire Emblem. They do have some differences, turn order works more like FFT/TO, and casters have MP and spell lists, there's also no perma-death.

I was going to try langrisser IV on psx, but I don't think I was in the mood. It starts with a bunch of seemingly random questions that influence stat/class growth of characters or something like that so then I felt I needed to do a bunch of research and got annoyed. I hate mechanics like that.

That's what made me like langrissser 2 so much. It is a nice simple trpg. There is still lots of strategy involved, but it doesn't get you bogged down in tons of mechanic complexity. There are some mechanics not clearly explained in game though when it comes to what units are effective against what, but it is simple to learn that then you are good to go.

Anyone should definitely try the genesis version of Langrisser 2 if you like trpgs!
You will probably wont like most career soft games( Langrisser, Growlanser ), as most of them start with some sort of personality test that dictates your class, equipable weapons, and stat growths.
As myself, I vastly prefer Langrisser. For mostly the Noryuki Iwadare music and the gameplay, my favorites are Langrisser 1 (pc engine ), 2( megadrive ) and 4.
One thing i would say the recent I and II remakes are far too easy and the change in the battle system isn't my cup of tea
