For those of you that have played any of the Langrisser games, what do you think of them? I'm a huge Fire Emblem fan, but I never played any Langrisser games. I found out about the series when the mobile gacha came out in 2019, and I ended up getting the Switch remakes of 1&2 thinking they seemed interesting, though I've yet to actually try them out.
And for those who have experience with both Langrisser AND Fire Emblem, what would you say both series excel at in comparison to each other?
Langrisser Square Enix's answer to Nintendo's Fire Emblem it is difficult to say who is better but in this case I would say Fire Emblem because there are now so many good parts that are simply great and the next one is already on the way. It's a pity that Square Enix didn't make more games like Langrisser would certainly have been interesting.
I really like langrisser 2. I think the battle animations are pretty cute when all the fighters are running into each other :3
I don't know anything about the other langrisser games, I think II was recommended to me because it is the best one? I think 2 holds up next to the fire emblem games, it is really fun and I really like the look of it.
The first two games were, yes. The series was primarily Sega exclusive, though they did eventually come to PlayStation as well. There was even a Super Famicom port of the second game, as well as a 3DS exclusive game. Unfortunately, the 3DS game sold pretty poorly and got bad reviews.

I was going to try langrisser IV on psx, but I don't think I was in the mood. It starts with a bunch of seemingly random questions that influence stat/class growth of characters or something like that so then I felt I needed to do a bunch of research and got annoyed. I hate mechanics like that.
That's what made me like langrissser 2 so much. It is a nice simple trpg. There is still lots of strategy involved, but it doesn't get you bogged down in tons of mechanic complexity. There are some mechanics not clearly explained in game though when it comes to what units are effective against what, but it is simple to learn that then you are good to go.
Anyone should definitely try the genesis version of Langrisser 2 if you like trpgs!

The Saturn/PSX games seem pretty mechanically dense from the basic research I've done on them. It isn't for everybody, that's for sure. I personally love stuff like that so it only gets me more intrigued. I definitely plan on playing the series, as much as I can, at least, so 2 is definitely on my radar.

Unfortunately there isn't. A full translation DOES exist for 3. However, it hasn't actually been put into the game yet, which is a shame. I heard that the project got revived for a little while, but went back to radio silence. So, technically, you COULD play 3 in English, you would just have to keep the translation on hand. A little awkward, but better than what 5 has, or in other words: nothing.
It's a shame, really. The series seems so interesting, but for the time being, a lot of it is inaccessible. Even the Saturn version of 4 is in need of a translation, as the PSX version that was included with 5 uses mechanics from that game. So, from my understanding, the game in its original state still isn't translated.
