This really takes me back! Waiting almost 2 hours to download a single 240p, 35mb RMVB file in some sketchy site

They used to be everywhere because many episodes you could find on the net were direct rips of the broadcast version. That's also the reason some shows had a timestamp on the upper-right corner

Nowadays it's almost impossible to see this because episodes are ripped directly from the DVD/Blu-ray release or directly from streaming services.

It's still on every Toku shows I watch weekly so I don't miss it much.

I believe tokus are still ripped from the broadcast version.

The day we stopped seeing these in anime was the day the medium died, frankly. THAT WAS THE BEST PART
