So if it isn't immediately obvious by my Zolda/Torque avatar, I'm such a huge damn fan of Kamen Rider Ryuki and Dragon Knight. I watched Dragon Knight while it was airing on 4kids (back when Saturday Morning shows for children still existed) in College and while a lot of it was watered down and much less violent than Ryuki, I still think it's tops and wish it was better distributed in the US

Ryuki, the other hand, feels completely dangerous despite the ludicrous idea of grown men fighting each other Highlander style with trading cards and monsters from a mirror dimension eating humans

Both have really great electronic soundtracks and I love the theme song from the 2008 pilot of Dragon Knight

Shout also has the entirety of Ryuki subbed in English if you're interested. Dragon Knight is a bit harder to come by outside of potato quality

To be honest, I never watched this season/sequel of Kamen Rider, but I did play the game that came out for the Wii, which is fine for a fighting game, but that's about it.

Kuuga and Ryuki are the main Kamen Rider shows I'm interested in watching aside from the original: Ryuki in particular has a unique premise of a Rider beginning his journey as a traditional protector of justice, only to discover that his actual purpose is to fight and kill his fellow kin, so the show's moral dilemma is an instant hook.

When I first watched it in my 20s, I felt super bad for Shinji because all the other riders are essentially assholes who're in it solely for themselves. But re-watching it now, they're more tough on Shinji solely because he's "fighting without a purpose" (playing into the show's tagline, "If you do not fight, you will not survive") in a game with a prize that can be whatever you want. A lot of the riders, especially Ren, are just completely hardened by grief and the world around them and don't want to let anyone else in

Honestly I'm just getting into the Kamen Rider series, and it would be a lot harder without these SHOUT tv uploads. So that rocks. Both Kuuga and Ryuki give me two things a lot of modern media is missing.

For one sincerity, most shows and movies are terrified of being seen as dumb or not being in on the joke, so they make lamebrained jokes about how silly their deadly situations are. From what I've seen the characters take their situations seriously and only joke when its appropriate to. And the other thing I love is a devotion to blending practical and computer effects. I am a quasi-purist when it comes to special effects. I believe film makers and creators work best when using all the tools at their disposal with tact and cunning. Modern film makers are really only willing to use CGI since they can just tell the animators to fix EVERYTHING in post-production and not have to plan, either due to inexperience or because corps are breathing down their necks. The costumes and props are deftly handled, with a clear craftsman's hand on the helm.

Good shit.

Kamen Rider W/Double was my first full introduction to the franchise (not discounting Masked Rider and Dragon Knight) and I watched it when it was still airing. It was quite the experience. Kamen Rider, much like Sentai, kind of has it's highs and lows and not every series is going to gel with people personally. Geats and Zero-One (though newer) also come highly recommended. Would love to watch Zeztz if Shout would just host the damned episode and not show it in a continuous stream

Kamen Rider Blade, which shares a ton of the card elements from Ryuki, is also an equally good series
