That bizarre 2008 anime series of 12 episodes only has a cool retro style (almost like it could've been drawn by Tezuka or his peers in the 60's-70's) that features a sci-fi world around the themes of memories being in chips that could get transferred from a body to another (like Altered Carbon). You follow the story of Warp who ends up amnesic (yeah it's not original but don't stop with that) and wants to reach his destination.

things are getting confusing because it shows what happened before the beginning so it's not a linear storytelling.

Despite its cute look there are various themes that are quite serious (and maybe suggestive, I warn you about that) which surprised me.

This reminds me of Mob Psycho and…I forgot most of the old ones that are cute but dark af, probably for a good reason

Made In Abyss is probably one of them

Mob Psycho
I often forget that the guy behind One Punch Man also made this. That anime looked retro as well.

I haven't seen much of MiA after Season 1 and that movie featuring Bondrewd (father of the year).

On the other hand I'd say that a lot of Tezuka's work look cute but often are dark (maybe because it was the 60-70's).

And yeah for the Made In Abyss, it's definitely because of the time (straight up horrifying anime, I kinda like the horror)

I got interested because it reminded me of Etrian Odyssey.

Kaiba is a great show. I haven't really seen anything else like it. Kind of a Japanese Little Prince.

I didn't expect that comparison but this is quite relevant. I think Little Prince is now public domain, right?

PS: Nice profile pic, it seems familiar to me.

I think it is, though it's not like the story is a direct adaptation, so it wouldn't be breaking IP law anyway.

Thanks! It's Kyosuke from Rival Schools.
