visually the film is fine , but the fights are pretty forgetable with less then a handful of actual fatalities. karl urban is easily the best thing in the film and they have the ingredients of a good film here but its just soulless. one thing i noticed (at least in the version i watched) that seemed pretty stupid is when johnny cage flipped a middle finger on multiple occasions it was always blurred even though gore and curse words are perfectly okay. also would you honestly expect shao khan to have a slightly posh english accent ? - well i didn't. my advice is to stick with the 1995 movie and the "conquest" tv series instead.

Mortal Kombat II is in cinemas now and for F R E E on the internet

Gotta love the impeccable logic at play here: "yeah, you can maim, kill, and otherwise destroy others... But with some class and dignity, dang it" XD

oh sweet merciful jesus do they really give Shao Khan that awful fake Cockney accent every show and movie is obsessed with nowadays

Johnny Cage is my favorite character so him being the MC is pretty cool, I gotta watch it eventually.

Its seems that MK movie once again got the number II wrong

At least is better than Annihilation, not that is hard to be better than whatever that was

welp.. hope you had fun at least.. I havent been big on MK in a long time, and even in the originals, I only liked the characters... I just dont go to the movies anymore, unless its like a special engagement thing at that place (cant remember the name... Alamo?) that serves food and booze.. we used to go to it when the 2nd season of walking dead came out and theyd play the new episode every week or whatever.. and once when they played Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust as a special so everybody who really liked it could get drunk and go off.. good times.. in the long, long ago... edit- they shouldve played both Vampire Hunter D films, I really like the og as well, but I guess they thought nobody did

I honestly thought the fake movie trailer they did was more interesting than the actual trailer for it. I would've paid to see a genuine shlocky-inspired action movie like this instead:

Keep hearing nothing but good things about this movie. Pretty excited to watch it

Now here's something that I didn't expect..
While I'm aware that there's a few people around here that absolutely despise the guy because of how... well, "critical" he can be, but The Critical Drinker actually posted a relatively glowing review of MKII..

I like Critical Drinker.. I know hes hated by both sides culture war stuff and probably hollywood in general, but hell, I dont care... he makes me laugh.. especially his Production Hell series.. whatever, enjoy what makes you smile or feel..

if you view the fight scenes in the 1995 movie , mainly the ones with cage vs scorpion , kang vs sub zero , and kang vs reptile - they are so much more fun to watch then most of whats in the latest movie.
in the new movie when johnny cage hits baraka a nut punch it seemed like the perfect time to hit him an uppercut - considering one of the main things cage is known for is that move.

proof the fight scenes are better in the 1995 movie:

I think it's a cool movie, better than the last one. Not a masterpiece and i still think the best mortal kombat movie is the 1995 movie but it's still a good time.

A friend promised me he'd invite me as soon as it was screened on a cinema nearby, so I eventually forgot about it. Turns out it was screened, he went and didn't invite me. Nothing to do with the movie itself, of course, but now I'm pissed off and can't even look at the posters.

So indeed I haven't seen it yet, but as my guy above says, the 95 MK movie is a total classic. Maybe it's just my love for B movies but I always go back to it every 2 years or so.

I haven't watched the second Mortal Kombat reboot movie yet, as I didn't really like the first reboot MK movie. Despite its flaws, cheese, and PG-13 rating the original Mortal Kombat movie stayed close to the little story they had for the game, and for all intents and purposes, it was a good movie.

As for Annihilation... maybe if I was high, it would be alright for a laugh...
The costumes were good, at least in Annihilation, and the characters mostly looked right.

I don't think I'll bother watching the second reboot movie. I'll stick to the animated movies, like Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge.

The Legends series is pretty damn good.

Big Mortal Kombat fan and I loved the movie. They captured the MK lore wonderfully and I enjoy the cast, I think everyone plays their part pretty on point. Raiden has been my favorite since the first game and I love him I the reboot series but if I were to put my bias aside, Kung Lao is utterly amazing, his fight with Liu Kang is one of the best in the entire series of movies.

The OG ‘95 is still the best imo but this one should have been the sequel to that one. Annihilation was absolute trash and although I did enjoy the ‘21 film, it would have obviously benefited more not having Cole in it. The actor is great, I’ve seen him in other stuff, just a shame they gave him that made up character. I think he would have made an awesome Kenshi instead.

Anyway, great film, it gave me what I wanted and I can’t wait to own it.

I never saw the animated stuff you were mentioning.. and I was there during mortal kombat fever.. I was always kinda luke warm on the games but liked the characters so that would probably be better for me.. like how I thought Fatal Fury 1 and 2 were ok but really liked the animes we got at the time, then Real Bout games era appeared and it was perfection..

Thankyou for this review, I will take you word on it and avoid this one completely, especially if the fight scenes are forgettable which should be the highlight.

i don't wanna put anyone off watching it - if u can see it for free go for it ( as i did ) , many have said the opposite of what i have said and karl urban is pretty good in it - i am also hard to please sometimes and find fault in many things. an example: i wasn't a big fan of "the dark knight" because to me it was all build up with no pay off ( and i couldn't get past christian bales batman voice ) - most of the world seems to adore that film.

It’s always best to have a watch and see for yourself.

The movie was great imo and kept with MK lore. Sure, the fights weren’t all amazing like in the ‘95 but it was still a fun watch and they kept up with good storytelling and great humor. I’m a huge fan of the games (surprise!!) so I went in ready to judge hard and I really enjoyed it.

i can definitely see potential , and i feel if they go all out then mortal kombat 3 could be amazing , i can imagine brigitte nielsen playing "sheeva" , jason momoa playing "motaro" and maybe Jason Statham playing "kabal" , and lets say they decide johnny cage is killed off in the first 20 minutes of the film - they should get van damme to play him - considering cage is said to be based off him.
