I did this once when it was new and can tell you almost nothing about the game. I think Mario can get little and big, and I think Bowser gets brutally burned to death in lava. I think? But I feel like I remember it being solid.
Your probably thinking about the Mega Mushroom

And yes bowser does get brutally burned in lava

So I’m guessing you liked this game when you were young, didn’t you
Yes. And I still like it now lol.

Before "Super Mario Wonder" came out, I considered NSMB DS to be the best in the "New" series. Some enemies, stage gimmicks and even powerups never made it into (the rather samey) future installments.

Some people theorised that it using SM64DS's engine and being focused on solo helped.

With Wii the level were built with co op in mind so that's why it was they felt too big and empty and easier.

Same issue I got was with the forced motion control...

Either way, I want to see the beta of the game leaked online to test it out.

My god, so many core memories unlocked, that was the game that came prebuild with my R4 card, beat it as much as the OG SMB

I think there was a resentment over the NSMB series because of how U and 2 on the 3DS.

Despite that the first one still managed to have some new ideas.

My childhood Mario is the same game without the "New" in the name. I also played a lot Super Mario 64, but that's it. It happened once again like with Pokemon, always the same until my brain told me "stop playing".

My head works opposite than companies. I don't want many games from the same universe even if I like them. Sagas should die, specially famous ones, and new ones should born. Exactly the opposite of marketing, and of course Nintendo.
