JRPGs that take place in our real world

It seems to be partly/mostly an old-school Japanese adventure game (Shadowrun Mega CD), which some people call visual novels now because it gave birth to that genre later on. Usually there's a bit more exploration/talking to people in adventure games like that (think Snatcher), it's not just like a book where you may make a few choices. It also has SRPG-style battles that involve dice.

There WAS a Japanese-developed Shadowrun game for the Mega CD, though I believe it was a combo visual novel / strategy game? Might be worth checking out. I know there was an English translation in the works at one point, though I don't know if it was ever finished.
I believe it was an RPG with tactical battles. The way the dialogues were laid out make it look like a VN at first glance, but no, it's closer to a menu driven adventure game, like Snatcher.

Yeah. When I finished this one I really wished it were longer; such a great game.

There is a blogsite that shows the real life counterpart to places in the game
