JRPG With The Best Gameplay?

Summon Night Swordcraft Story series! 🌟
View attachment 200786
Not only the story of all Summon Night games is great, but the Swordcraft Story series of them has my favorite gameplay too!
As far as i like the stories and mechanic of swordcraft story the lack of multi target hit was annoying. Like in sword craft story 2 there's several fight where you're againts 2 weapon user, in which if you wanted to obtain their weapon it's gonna be a hassle to break their weapon.

But atleast they fixed it in Swordcraft story 3. Making weapon other than drill seems usable for crowd control.

I'm a big fan of Star Ocean: The Second Story..
I prefer the PS1 original over the PSP remaster. Although I haven't gotten around to playing the (2023) "R"/remake..
I found the remake delightful and surprisingly respectful of my time (take of that what you will)

Final Fantasy V's job system has always been one of the best for me.
Final Fantasy V's Job System is pretty dope and leads to tons of replay value.
::heart FF5 and the job system: it's so cute how the characters change their appearance based on the job and it is so much fun to mix and match skills ^_^

That is also what makes tactics my favorite FF: it is so fun to take a bunch of generic characters and build your party how you want. I know X-2 gets some hate, but I love it for the same reasons, I can't help but love a job mechanic that changes the player asthetic >_<

I haven't gone past the 2, might interpret this as a sign to get to review my backlog and redefine my priorities.

That is also what makes tactics my favorite FF:
I've tried so many times to get into FF Tactics but I never manage to get very far. I don't know what it is about srpgs but I just don't like them. It's weird because I like turn based tactics games like the Advance Wars series and even that Metal Slug Tactics game but once you slap an RPG system on top I just check out. I think it's having to manage all the characters. I find it overwhelming. That's part of the other reason I like FFV, there's only 4 party members for the whole game. I didn't really like FFIV's rotating party or FFVI's giant ensemble cast either.

I feel like I should give X-2 a fair chance. I was always a bit bitter about the first FFX. I was pretty excited for it after FFIX. It felt like the series was finally going back to its fantasy roots after FF7 and FF8 and I was expecting a full on 3d world, something like FF9 but bigger and better. Like I genuinely held out hope the game actually had a world map right up until getting the airship. It's funny, Dragon Quest VIII actually ended up being pretty much everything I wanted FFX to be. Anyway, I did decide to try X-2 a year or two ago just because I'd heard for years the dress sphere system was fun but I barely made it through the intro. I got up to where you can pick a location from the airship and just noped out of it because it felt like playing some kind of magical girl anime or something and it was just more choose a place from a menu bullshit like the latter part of X was.
