Canada (moving this month!)
I thought this might be a fun thread to start up since I've seen a few others do one as well!
I'm 28 and an aspiring musician who loves music and video games! I've been playing games since I was around 4 years old 😄

Feel free to ask me about anything you want!

Finally moving to Canada? Hope all that goes well. Not gonna talk too much about it, don't want to cause trouble. But I think I'm beginning to see a few things from your point of view lately lol.

So, what would you say is your favorite genre of music? I might've asked that before.

I'm doing really good! And yep, I'm going to be moving at the end of the month on the 26th 😄

Also my favourite genre of music... that's a bit of a tricky question. I'm a great lover of music so I listen to a lot of different types of genres depending on the mood I'm in.
That said, the types of genres that I keep finding myself coming back to have been:
Post-Hardcore
Shoegaze
Piano (of all types)
Industrial
and Jazz

I've also been listening to a lot of Punk and Post-Punk this year, which I also adore.

I'm glad to hear from you again, I hope you're doing well ❤️

You made an AMA thread, nice!

What have you been up to these last couple weeks? What's new in the life of Jiyuu?
I've been practicing my singing and guitar playing mostly.

It's been really hot here recently, like 32C with 70%+ humidity so i havent been able to get out and take walks like i usually do TwT
i'm very much ready to move xD

which instrument would you use in Wii Music?

Should I tell my parents I’m adopted?
wont they cry?
Game(s) that never fails to make you cry?
The Last of Us.
I played that game, not joking, 7 times in a row, each time going a difficulty higher than before. I played that game during a really rough part of my life and the ending always made me sob.

I remember playing TLoU2 for the first time a couple years ago, and even though I didn't beat it, that first cutscene at the beginning where Joel is telling Tommy about what happened at the end of the first game... damn. the flood gates reopened and it was like i was right back in 2015 again 🥲

That's where I am! What made you choose here?
No way! I'm going to be starting at UVic in the fall in the Japanese program. I'm gonna be doing a minor in music and trying to find cool people to form a band with! What's the music scene like there?

Amazing!

There's always been a quirky & homegrown music scene here, but it took a pretty big hit during Covid. It's building back up and I see a lot of local shows happening, but we'll hopefully see some more venues open up to replace the ones lost during that time.

We just had some big annual summer events, but you'll be here in time for the biggest festival that happens in the city, Rifflandia, and I'm sure there'll be lots of smaller events going on around then too.

Some artists originally from around here include Wolf Parade, Mother Mother, Frog Eyes, Nomeansno, 3 Inches of Blood, Hot Hot Heat, and Spiritbox, to name a few.

I will be there in time for that! Ahhh it's so expensive though xD

I'm so excited to move, Victoria is so lovely. I can't wait to dive into everything y'all have x3

Yeah, I don't think I'll be going this year based on price and lineup, but they did actually lower prices a bit compared to last year. It's in CAD at least? ::sailor-embarrassed Interested to see what other shows are happening around that time though!

We don't see a lot of bigger acts spend the money to to come here, so there's definitely a healthy interest in local music, but there's are direct ferries to both Seattle and the Vancouver area, so people often go there for shows as well.

Catching Cat Clyde tomorrow, excited for that!

How have you been?
I've been doing really good. I made another big breakthrough in my vocals today so I'm pretty excited x3
I'm thinking about buying this used Vivienne Westwood ring off of eBay 👀

Hell yes. I love the love for local music y'all got going on. The music I want to make is defo more post-hardcore/punk focused, so hopefully I can find my people <3

I love that the ferries are so accessible, but I'd rather stay local and save the money
