I know it’s common knowledge now, but why EXACTLY do we think they made JP Spyro so awful? Was there a legitimate reason for them to alter the camera system the way they did… or did they somehow mess it up?

From what I've heard, the original camera system caused motion sickness in the Japanese players, which is why it was changed.

I hear you, but the logic isn’t logic-ing. The camera system is fundamentally the same as the system used in other 3D collectathons, so you’d think it was already something players would be familiar with.

I will say, I can’t rule out the idea that it was just a bad batch of playtesters. That isn’t out of the question

Again, this is what I've heard. I don't claim to understand the logic behind this.

I wish it was just an option and not forced.

Like European Extreme for MGS.

DONT WE ALL!

Thing is, it’s not even us who should be the most upset, but rather the poor Japanese gamers who were unfortunate enough to buy the game back then. Not that many copies were sold. That’s probably a good thing.

Was this after the epilepsy disaster that happened from a Pokemon show on school kids? Maybe the publisher was trying to be safe with something I can't say for sure, unless I was in their head during that time.

1998, so possibly. That may be the case.
