I mean they are not the only company made a choice like this. I remember Sony did the same thing with ps4 but I haven't seen some changes altho Xbox is doing it bit by bit with releasing new games and require you to own this generation to play the game. I'm not surprised

PS4 lasted quite a bit post-PS5. Then again the PS2 subsisted several years after the PS3.

I find it weird to see modern games still being released to the Xbox One/XOne S/X even when the Series S/X was there.

Yeah but when you see it in the store it tells you it's only series x or s compatible

Also I'm not sure about ps4 discontinued support is a real thing but I just heard they wanted to do this

Since the subsequent Xbox One models are also called S and X that could lead to confusion.


Sorry but without being a Microsoft/Xbox hater I think that the entire marketing and name around the Xbox Series has been fumbled by them using the same gamepad shape (only the d-pad is different), the same Xbox logo (slightly glossy black) and the same naming type. The jump from the 360 to the ONE was at least obvious.

Imagine a non-gamer seeing those two and imagining that it's just yet another iteration of the Xbox One like people thinking the Wii U was just the tablet or a HD upgrade of the Wii.
