I don't know whether it's possible or not but it would be great if we could use classic ASCII emoticons without them automatically turning into emojis. I think there are a good number of people (including me) who prefer using them than using emoji, and it's a bit annoying that we can't use them because they automatically turn into emojis. If somebody wants to use emojis they still have a lot of ways to use them, but we don't really have ways (that I know of at least) to use ASCII emoticons. It's a bit limiting.

I'm guessing it shouldn't be too hard to change the few Modern/People smilies to use :something: codes like most others.

In the meantime, and even if it's an ugly workaround, you can use the "icode" tag: :) ;) :D

At least for now, you can also use a slightly modified version of them... for example adding a space between them. ; )

You can use preview button and experiment with them without actually sending the message. (preview button is not available in profile posts)

Yeah, that’s what I’m doing right now, thank you!

ASCII stuff is always amazing. Just a great example of humans seeing faces in things.
Yeah, pretty interesting. We probably have trained our brains to associate everything with two dots and a curved line in that specific formation to a face at this point lol. Kaomoji are amazing too, really creative.
