Is the Nintendo Switch 2 worth it?

In my opinion, I'm going to wait a year, since there aren't many games and you can still play the Switch 1 games. Another thing I've noticed is that Switch 2 games are game key cards. Does it seem like we're saying goodbye to physical media?

No, since you have those silly game key card things were the actual game has to be downloaded by some code or something like that.

Nintendo is awful right now.

The Eshop doesn't work, their policies are outrageous, the new Mario Kart is ass, the controllers still have drift and their hardware is pitifully outdated.

If playing Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders is just THAT important to you, then yeah, get a Switch 2. But I highly recommend not getting it until more worthwhile exclusives come out.

I like how EA has the worst reputation on the internet, but nintendo has some of the worst buisness practices on earth (even before the Switch) and way less ppl complained about it until recently

When I sold my 3ds for the new3dsxl I found out I couldnt just log into my old account, I had to do this "deactivate and transfer your account" thing

I said fuck it and modded it and I never bought a nintendo game since.
Also I cant believe how many times they expect you to re buy mario 1 for five euros, werent ps1 games on the psn sold for less?

it's gonna look so ass on Switch 1 might as well treat it like a 2 exclusive.
Prime 1 Remastered looked good on the S1 but I think the mouse mode for the S2 will be a game changer.

Absolutely not worth it, at least not yet, wait for more and actually good games to be released.

The only exclusive that doesn't look like soulless garbage is Kirby Air Ride 2 and maybe donkey kong. Nintendo is at the same point Ubisoft was a few years ago they think they're too big to fail so they don't feel the need to try.

Drag X Drive didn't look soulless, just lackluster.

Steamdeck is not going to emulate Switch 2, not now not in 5 years, sorry to spoil the news :(

Nevertheless, Switch 2 is an expensive paperweight right now, so it is too early to ask that question.
They will jailbreak that thing far before Nintendo ever fixes it to actually work correctly.

Eventually it'll have a decent library but as of right now, meh.

The new Yoshi game coming out looks really good too. Personally I'm waiting for the next Zelda.

I been looking through the comments and I don't get why people (yes I know I'm on a site about emulation) are talking about emulation on a home video game console that just released? People buy the home consoles for the exclusives.

I'm going to assume there's a decent amount of people on here that don't have a lot of disposable income. I can't blame them for wanting to play new software without having to pay. When I was in my 20's and barely making money to cover my bills, I definitely resorted to key generators and .exe cracks for games I downloaded.

As I got older and started having a career, I was able to put money back into the hobby I love and have been enjoying most of my life. So I don't mind paying for new games these days. I'm thankful to be in that situation but I understand why some just can't right now.

What I don't understand is the vitriol in some of these comments that is then used to rationalize pirating new games. Just admit you're broke but want to play them. No one is believing your crusade against these game companies is your reason for pirating 🏴‍☠️

Yeah, I'm mostly with you on this. I'm in a similar place, and very grateful to be, but also think it's really pretty silly to really get up in arms in either direction. If you can buy it and want to, do so. If not, go ahead and pirate. You vote with your dollar in gaming, so just be aware of that; purchase when possible, but enjoy either way.

In terms of the original question of the thread, my position is 'not really, not yet'. I split the cost of a Switch 2 earlier on Black Friday with my girlfriend bc hers (from 2018-ish) was on its way out, and we had a lot of great games we loved that ran like shit on the old console. The upgrade in games released in the last year or two is immediately noticeable, and a welcome improvement. Mario Kart World is really fun to play together, and it's nice that just about everything looks/runs better.

Beyond a situation like that, where your Switch is kinda dying and it's time for an upgrade/replacement anyway, I really don't think the exclusives are there yet to justify a purchase. Just my two cents.

Give me Toon Link in New Hyrule and I'm set.
How much can we bet that the Zelda fans would complain about that if we get another game with that Link?

The Zelda fanbase wants novelty by telling to stop milking the same ideas while asking for older stuff to come back.

When I see people asking for Nintendo to make "Twilight Princess 2" because apparently "that's the real Zelda" I get confused because in a way TP2 was Skyward Sword (and TP was WW2 mechanically speaking).

What I don't understand is the vitriol in some of these comments that is then used to rationalize pirating new games. Just admit you're broke but want to play them. No one is believing your crusade against these game companies is your reason for pirating.🏴‍☠️
I kinda agree on that one, some people are trying to give a moral justification over an action when it's either not needed nor necessary.

I mean I could always buy a Fat PS3 just to be able to play some games on it yet I think it's just too much of a hassle for games that are almost two decades old, I'm not doing it to spite Sony even if I think that the PSVR is an expensive piece of tech and that VR is a massive gimmick that would work better on PC.

Zelda for Switch 2.
If you want a mount to get around faster, you gotta get the Epona Amiibo,
additionally if you want music in the overworld you gotta get the Princess Zelda Amiibo. The Master sword will be optional this time soooo if you want that... you gotta get the Link Amiibo,
Navi will have a quirky voiceover now & will inject you hard with marvel, millennial writing to hold your hand & tell you how to do everything throughout.
