Is the Nintendo Switch 2 worth it?

The whole bricking for modding a console was meant to fight against piracy and online cheating?

The first one could be bad for honest buyers if they get several games at once but I still agree about the later half, I don't want to see people unfairly winning games or griefing them to ruin other's enjoyment.

Modding is legit everywhere. Don't think only about Nintendo, laws can't possibly block you from modifying whatever you buy if you're at home, because you're at home. And by modifying something in this case means you're enhancing the hardware capabilities to play games better.

But what you say is totally logic, online cheating should not be permitted. But I always relate it with kids, because when you cheat in life, you cheat to yourself. Even if nobody notices it, you know it. But as kids are unmature beings, they don't care, but when they have social / laboral problems because of cheating, they get what they deserve.

I also don't support piracy as is, I mean for the only sake of playing everything for free. I don't care a person has the excuse of "I have no money, that's why I pirate". That's not valid, because you can get lots of cheap games from console stores or PC stores. If you're patient and don't want the last of the last, then you can get many great deals and have a lot of fun with very little money. You want the best, the newest and with the cheapest price? the world isn't for you.

Another different thing is that for playing a game that was released 15 years ago, I have to pay 200-300€ because scalpers galore or market reasons. That would be a no-no, 1st because the developer does not get any money from it anymore, and 2nd I don't want anyone to get that money regardless on how much I want that game. So, in such case, and if there is no re-release version that you can buy cheap digitally, download the ISO and play it in your favourite device. Playing "pirated" Switch games has only one purpose for me right now, I have the original and I just don't want to use it, so I get a backup somewhere and use it, while my game is perfectly kept. And that should be a right.

That's something I could understand but would be probably be recommended only after the warranty has expired since modification outside of technical support could forfeit it.

Cheating as a recreational thing in strictly single player games is something I'm fine with. Who never played Minecraft with the Too Many Items mod when Creative Mode wasn't a thing? And Doom as well of plenty of 32/64-bits era games had those unlockable as a way to reward the player which I am fine with.

Nowadays DLCs and Achievements removed those and modding games even for offline could risk a ban somehow.

While I understand the whole money thing (food and shelter are still more important than games) I think that if someone has enough money for a console or a computer that could run these games they cannot really make that excuse unless the games emulated are really old (10+ years old at least).

Indie games are also a great way to experience genuinely good games without spending too much either.

I hate how real retro consoles are less reachable yeah...

It's ironic how a remaster can be more affordable even if it's at 60 bucks.

the local gamestop i went to had a lot of nintendo switch 2's for sale. i'm like wth.. is it worth getting one now IMO it's not.

For me personally, no. But I played Mario Kart World's on a friend's Switch 2 and we had a blast, for what that's worth.

Meanwhile fans are making Mario Kart 64 for PC with HD textures
That looks nice but I'd still argue that if it's fundamentally Mario Kart 64 it will still have the flaws.

If there are new maps, 200cc among other bonuses I would consider it.

I got my switch 2 last week. Very happy with it. Its expensive but worth it. Mario Kart World is setting a high bar for this console. Also Zelda Botw/TotK Switch 2 editions are a big difference. I have other consoles and a gaming pc but somehow I always return to Nintendo. Only major downsides of the console are the price, availability, and current lack of games that use the system's full power. I guess the price is understandable because the screen and speakers on the console are high quality. Also I wish the pack in game was a box+cartridge and not just a paper with a download code.

Edit: Just now learning the issues with the screen. Without seeing the videos with the specs I would never notice. Its showing a very long response time, Im guessing this isnt the console to be playing fighting games on. I wonder if the response time will be better if I put my switch on my gaming pc monitor.

Let's wait a year or two. Hopefully they wouldn't make cross gen games all the time.
Waiting for the next main Zelda and Mario games that use the systems full power. IDK whats next for LoZ after botw&totk but its gonna be awesome

there's a couple of first party games out atm.

mario kart world
donkey kong banaza
kirby air rider's
hyrule warriors age of imprisonment

a new mario tennis game comes out in about 2 month's where mario and some of friends get turned into baby's (yeah nintnedo wth) that's all the first party i can think of. IMO it's your call. some switch games don't work on the switch 2 so keep that in mind.

If the switch is one of your main platforms, I dont see why not. Yes first party wise it could be better, but from what's been released (plus upcoming games like gen 10 pokemon and fire emblem fortunes weaves) its not that bad and its a upgrade overall despite some issues. I'm personally happy with my switch 2 and like using it in handheld whenever I dont feel like playing my ps5 or pc

NO... unless you want to deal with "nintendo switch 2 fruad"

There's some really good hits.

Mario Kart World
Donkey Kong Bananza
Kirby and the Forgotten Land DLC
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
Kirby Air Riders
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is coming this week

So there's some good exclusives.

My personal opinion is that you should wait until there are a larger selection of titles out that you want to have. I assume that since you are asking the question you are already on the fence and not sure if you want to make the investment. The Nintendo Switch 2 is not like other consoles have been in the past where you would need to rely on scalpers or inflated prices if you could not get one at launch. Nintendo has done an exceptional job with making sure they are stocked. Having said that, if you are afraid of rising prices that will most likely occur in the future due to chip supply problems or if you have massive FOMO, then you should get one. I personally don't see any "must have" that would drive me to purchase one yet. Maybe Metriod 4 when it comes out but we'll see how well that reviews. Mario Kart World has been kind of "meh".

At the end of the day, do your own diligence and don't listen to people posting on the internet. I'd make the argument that the price of all current systems (PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series) is making the entry into the platform harder and harder.
