Is the Nintendo Switch 2 a fail?

It sold 3.5 million so I think they're okay. if you mean the hardware is sloppy then I guess so.

The Switch 2 sold, initially, incredibly well. Not sold-out, as you can find them in stores pretty easily (including the Mario Kart bundle), However, a lot of those early purchasers are unsatisfied with the product for reasons primarily involving the Key Cards (why buy a lesser version of a game on Switch 2 when it's digital-only...when you can get the superior version of the same digital game on PC/Steam with constant sales?) & manufacture/part quality. Oh, and then there's Nintendo's constant AI monitoring of every account as though they're China.

Not to mention that the majority of gamers who own a Switch and bought a Switch 2 also own a PS5...with superior versions of these same third party Key Card games available physically (which Sonly also wants to kill).

Yes, people bought the Switch 2. This includes me. But how are the games selling? The Key Card games, by all early reports, are selling like wet turds. Digitally? I'm doubting anything but first party games are selling well due to lack of system memory and price of the needed memory cards. I see more people talking online about using their Switch 2 to play their old Switch games with improved loading times than chatting-up the sexiness of Switch 2 titles.

The proof of the Switch 2 will be this Christmas and Metroid Prime 4 (which I expect to be out by then). If Nintendo sells the Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4 on a Key Card then the console is cooked. Full stop, end of story. People will just buy the Switch game, even if it too is digital-only for some unknown insipidly braindead reason. I doubt this will happen for the Switch 1, but I believe it's a 50/50 chance for Switch 2. Nintendo REALLY wants to push Key Cards to destroy both piracy and the used game market, after all. Even games they delisted 20-years ago and can only be played via emulation or used.

Even then, as stated before, third party companies are seeing their releases not sell on the Switch 2. Without 3rd party support, no matter how well the Switch 2 initially sold, it'll just become a Wii U2.

What can be said for sure is that so far, the switch 2 third party game sales have been arguably the worst in the company's history, likely due to the key card fiasco, so the switch 2's third party support may dry up real fast if things don't change.

Still hoping people will vote with their wallet on this one. But I'm not gonna count on it.

Hell, I think I said before in this thread, I have never even physically touched the original Switch nor did I buy it. And unless I find one for 50 bucks in a pawn shop, I'm likely never to buy one. Even with the PS4, I only bought one a few months ago in a pawn shop for 70 dollars.

I think it might not have even been that much, and that was solely to mod it to play a few PS3 games that I hardly care about more to mod it.

So I did vote with my purse. I didn't buy an OG Switch, and I'll be damned if I buy the Switch 2: Meh dude

The switch 2 is not failure it´s the fastest selling console ever and proof that even if gamer´s complain that things are expensive. But as soon as their favorite company does something new they are on their knees sucking like good cooperate slaves they are. They love to bitch but their slave nature makes them still blowing money and reason why EA still around even if they been voted worst company of the years 4-5 times in a row.

The first switch library isn't that impressive. Some decent stuff but few and far between. Unless they up their game they may fall behind other companies.
The Zelda, Mario and Splatoon games are good.

But I mostly focus on first party games there.

And I'll be honest but the main interest in buying a Nintendo console is for the Nintendo games. Third party? I'd rather play them on PC. Maybe except indie games since they would run well on it.

See, this is the mentality most people have, bitching and griping because "X is too expensive" and "Company Y is greedy" No, they have to make money. R&D isn't cheap. Mass-producing anything, even if it costs 1 dollar at the end of the day in stores, still costs money, and they have to make it back and then double or more their profit.

But people will complain about the price, all while gladly opening their purse or wallet and throwing money at the same company they just complained about.

Basically, hypocrites.

Again, I am loyal to no brand or company. If I buy something, I don't care if it was two generations ago when it comes to game consoles. So what? Wow, customer A got it new when it was 500 dollars.
So what? I waited a few years and got it secondhand for 75 dollars.

Well said I could not agree more.

Honestly I'd also encourage people to optimise their money, make efforts finding things for a lesser price with the same quality as well as learning to wait until you see an opportunity to get something for a cheaper price.

And to be honest I'd find complaints about prices more legitimate for gas, clothing, food and water since those are vital things. I could live without games better than without water.

Also paying 500 - 600 for a computer tablet is still basically spending a lot of money because at the end of the day the person would still spend it. Sure, in there you have your full Steam Library but I also see that people usually spend money for digital only games and ends up with a backlog with 20 - 30% of unplayed games (so, between a 50 - 60 physical game you play and a dozen of 5 - 10 games you never get to try is a huge difference). People are still spending a lot of money for entertainment (even retro gaming is expensive unless you can run emulators but then again you'll need a decent PC).

Absolutely, I understand if you have disposable income, which a lot of us don't. Find a deal or as you said, wait. But most people have the patience of a meth-out rat anymore

Again, 100% agree

Freak yeah man. You don't have to have the absolute top-of-the-line system, phone, tablet, etc. unless you make money from having it that's a different story. Like being a Vtuber or live streamer, sure, I can see footing the bill for something that high or more. None of my PCs or gaming stuff were bought new, except I think my PS1 and PS2 when they were released. But that's about it.

I'm also a cheapskate when it comes to electronics.
I buy broken and busted stuff for next to nothing, and fix it.

Yeah, I think I have a grand total of five or six games on Steam I paid for, and they were summer sale deals. All my others are freebies or acquired in rather... let's say, more nefarious ways.
And hell, I don't even play 90% of them.

Sadly the culture of FOMO or even thinking that if you miss the hype train you couldn't appreciate a game unless you play it upon release. Either because of the videos being made that could spoil many or because of the online becoming empty after 3 months because of the next popular AAA coming...

And yes, gamers nowadays are having a serious problem regarding patience.

Again, 100% agree.
I'd still advocate for accessible culture but I'd rather give people free books, nice indie games via humble bundles or even classic movies being available legally on Youtube (or any non subscription video platforms) for free.

My current PC can decently run the PS360 era but then again my previous one lasted for a decade.

I'd be fine with a before to last gen GPU/CPU rather than spending something that had its price increasing increasing in a logarithmic sequence.

My Steam library has less than 1000 games for a 10+ years old account. I've stopped buying games full price for like 5 years unless they're indies at around 20 bucks.

While i get your argument, that's not what nintendo needs, nintendo makes 30% off of any third party game sold remember, if third party collapses on the switch 2, then nintendo is going to be out a ton of potential sales and considering consoles are slowly dying as a medium this is NOT the period they'd want to test those waters as this may be their last big chance at a big boon from console licensing.

Well, to be fair, like Fortnite and similar games, they crank these games out by the handfuls at a time. They are soulless, empty gotchas money-grabs
And yes, gamers nowadays are having a serious problem regarding patience.
Honestly, I blame a lot of that on stuff like TikTok and similar platforms. Not the platform itself, but the videos. A lot of it seems to stem from the quick fix videos. You know, the 10-20 second "haha stupid funny video" dopamine hit fix. It's really prevalent in kids and early adults under 25 who have the attention span of a goldfish.
I'd still advocate for accessible culture but I'd rather give people free books, nice indie games via humble bundles or even classic movies being available legally on Youtube (or any non subscription video platforms) for free.
Free is nice and all, but as we have seen many times, that model doesn't work in any society. Some would call it communism I don't, but that's what most would compare it to. You have to have money exchanging to have ideas flourish. I may be taking how you put it in the wrong light. If so, apologies

Same. And even some current AAA games, if you want to call them Triple A. But it's not pumping out 4K by any means, but then again, the hardest graphically demanding game I run is DOOM Eternal
I'd be fine with a before to last gen GPU/CPU rather than spending something that had its price increasing increasing in a logarithmic sequence.
Yeah, I don't need a GPU or PC setup that costs as much as a new car payment plus a month's full coverage insurance

Well, and honestly, I haven't seen anything worth getting in over five years, at least, so I get you
