I haven't played Gothic. A friend tells me to check it out now and again but I'm not too big on PC gaming.
So has anyone played the Switch version? Is it significantly different than the PC version? Is it a good port/way to play Gothic?
I ask because a local retailer has it on a pretty deep discount right now.

Worth a shot if it’s that cheap

I wasn't aware that Gothic was ported to switch. I might pick it up myself. I have played Gothic 1 and 2 on PC before. I think the controls would map pretty well to a controller honestly. The PC versions basically use tank controls and were played with keyboard only. They can be brutally difficult games at times, but they are a ton of fun to explore. The games are open-world, but scaled back significantly compared to something like the Elder Scrolls series. In exchange the spaces have a more singular sense of design, and they feel much less cookie cutter than Elder Scrolls.

From what I can see online, Gothic 1 was pretty buggy when it was initially released on Switch. The most recent posts I can see about it makes it seem like they fixed most of the glaring bugs. Apparently there's some sort of autotargeting system that can make the combat more awkward than it already was originally. It seems like Gothic 2 has also been mostly fixed up now? People seem to be able to complete the game without resorting to cheats now. There seem to be issues with crashing in both versions, but tbh if you play Gothic you should be saving constantly. Even on PC with community patches, there is a level of jank present in both games.

Imo if the game is really that cheap, I don't think you have much to lose. You might bounce off of them though because they really don't hold your hand.

I did end up buying it. Ran me about the equivalent of $12 USD in my currency.

I had a bit of a go of Gothic 1 before bed last night, and yeah. A few things you said stood out hehe Tank controls, kind of awkward auto-targeting.
I did learn pretty early on that it was one of those older games, where you do need to save often :loldog Only lost about 5 minutes, but it was enough to learn that I need to manually save.
It doesn't seem bad or anything though. Maybe the kind of game I want to take notes on as I go to help me keep on track of things.

I always wanted to try it, but it was never on sale so I got the controller mod for Gothic 2 on PC and it's such in insanely good experience that way. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I own the physicals and I'd say yes. That said, I had some issues with the first Gothic crashing while playing docked. I didn't have this issue in handheld mode.
