Is physical media important to you?

Thought I'd ask the question: Is physical media important to you? To me, it kind of is. I came from a "thrifty, penny saved is a penny earned" kind of family where I didn't get a lot of stuff, I treasured what I had. Now as an adult with a steady full-time job, I treat my inner five year old to stuff a little more (though I wince at stuff that costs more than ten or twenty dollars)

It's weird to me because I've encountered people who scoff at the idea of owning anything when streaming is around and right at your fingertips

Yeah, it's important to me. Will I buy a pile of DVDs of movies I like for a few dollars? Absolutely. Rather than buy an ebook copy of a tabletop game would I buy a second hand or repro copy? Definitely. Will I seek out the physical copies of absurdly priced rare games though? No. If price wasn't a factor for a lot of out of print stuff I'd pick stuff up in a heartbeat, but my brain can only permit so much before asking "what are you doing" if something is far more reasonably acquired digitally.

You can have a hard drive full of stuff that you "own", but it's just a boring box sitting on a desk.

Nothing compares to a shelf full of media in a badass looking entertainment room. It's a little slice of heaven to unwind in and escape the problems of adult life

I have physical collections and digital collections but I prefer physical by far.

Been there. I used to collect to the point that I slept under a desk on a rug due to lack of space. At some point, that part of my brain just switched off and I got rid of like 90% of what I had. Now I do much more considering before I buy something that's potentially going to just sit around for the sake of sitting around.

It's just a random picture from online. My space would be put together very differently and would be a bit cleaner looking, you'd probably still hate it though. You seem to be very minimalist, which I am not. I like having lots of stuff and I want to live abundantly.

I can enjoy a well-done space, that one just lacks any sort of theme other than "this is my entire personality, look at how much money I spent on games while I also apparently got these matching chairs from the dump"?
Nothing wrong with having lots of stuff, though I'd argue you can live abundantly without lots of stuff.

The problem is I have a terrible time parting with anything I buy. Thinking to myself "maybe one day I'll have time to enjoy it". I buy dvds every so often to unwind at night (I try and mentally "unplug" from electronics around 8 pm if I work the next day) but I've been finding tons of good ones lately, same with CDs and audio cassettes (got a second hand sports yellow Sony CFD-E75)

And don't get me started on toys and stuffed animals (I have a chronic problem with cute stuff)

I definitely get it. I also get the "if I don't get this now it'll be marked way up later" viewpoint as well. I would sell some stuff as I went along, did some trades and things like that, and there's stuff I regret getting rid of, for sure. So I get it. You do what's right for you, and if that changes, you'll roll with it. I did.

Moving into a smaller space kind of forces you to really think about what stuff you really care about and what you don't. I have a lot of stuff, but I got rid of some things in the past 2 years after moving to a smaller house which made me realize that there was not enough space for the things I really liked and cared about because I was still making space for stuff I no longer liked or cared about anymore.

Eventually, I want to move back into a larger home because I prefer large spaces. However, being forced to get rid of a few things was a good experience. I have a better idea now of what stuff I value and what stuff I don't. I think that's the difference between "hoarder" and "collector". The Collector knows what he wants and values, the hoarder (which I used to be) just keeps everything.

Eventually, I want to move back into a larger home because I prefer large spaces.

I recently went from a studio apartment in Seattle to owning my parents' 2-story house in So Cal, and while I don't really have any plans to fill this house up with stuff (after I go through all of their stuff, holy hell these people never got rid of anything!), having no shared walls with neighbors and no one above or below me is pretty cool.

Although i have most of my games in digital format, i think it's cool to have a collection of games in physical format. I have mine of PS2 games and some Genesis cartridges.

Of course it would be cool to own every single piece of media I've ever cared to consume in a physical form but unfortunately, we live in a world where shelf space, money and time are valuable assets that I need to balance in my daily life and allocating those resources into a big pile of manufactured plastic and cardboard that ultimately gets used digitally anyway simply is not high in my list of priorities. Especially when those devices that utilize that media are also just getting older and deprecated with time. Having more modern and convenient ways to enjoy this media around is simply more important to me.

I doubt I will have regrets about not hoarding more on my deathbed. My house is an e-waste dump as it is even without this stuff around.

Yes and no.
No because shit takes up allot of space and when you can´t afford a 1-2million dollar house space is a luxury.

No Because old games physical cost an arm and a leg to get your hands on.

No because allot of modern games today if you get them on disc you still need to download shit making it rather pointless because let say the server is shut down or you got no internet then does modern games becomes as useful as coasters.
