Is anyone else mad about the Switch 2's TOS and the game carts with no game data on them?

LOL. And hackers who don't want to crack Denuvo on PC because, as you claim ‘it's boring’ will crack Denuvo for every game protected with it on Switch 2? ( Because hacking console system security won't do anything for Denuvo-protected games)

As you can see here only 25 Denuvo protected games was cracked or bypassed from 2021 to 2025.
Hackers don't bother cracking denuvo games because each game has a specific key that lock each game, cracking denuvo requires either breaking the very security system itself, or cracking the passcode for lack of a better word, for each game, it's easier to crack the passcode but boring, and cracking the security has it's own problems as they can update the system to close that with the next revision, both methods are boring but well within doable..

Switch 2 likely uses a hypervisor protected encryption and not a game specific one (it would be VERY difficult to do so, not to mention that it would not be doable on a system wide scale for each game as the denuvo license is licensor specific), meaning the likely scenario is that the switch 2 if it has denuvo encryption, is encryption at the hardware level, if that is the case it will be cracked likely within a year, like i said, this won't matter as much as people might think for emulation though, emulation can happen even without a cracked switch but it's harder.

As for why more games on pc aren't cracked, it's due to lack of interest, 90% of the games that are on the list either get it removed eventually (the biggest deterrent to denuvo cracking ironically) or have multiplayer components making cracking it pointless, the exception to this is SEGA games, which surprise surprise, most end up on the switch, which means you can emulate them, there are also key bypasses which work for this function too, but i'm not as experienced on that.

For what it's worth someone is supposedly working on a universal denuvo cracker since the switch is on the way out, but cracking denuvo is still pretty low priority for the time being for the reasons i posted above, though interest has started growing again.
As i said, the main problem is the lack of a desire to, the desire is growing with recent developments but it's hard to say how many care enough to do it, it is doable though.

Apparently in the Switch 2's terms of service you cannot mod the switch 2 in any way, not even to replace broken or faulty parts because if you do Nintendo can remotely brick your console. You don't actually own the Switch 2 you just own the license. Oh, and the game carts with no game data on them, just a download key, so you don't actually own you games either. You know what I say? If purchase isn't ownership then piracy isn't stealing.
It has always been that way for hardware, where did you see that they can remotely brick your console?

I find that statement pretty hard to believe, sounds more like a lie.

Back on the 7th generation consoles many games came with the DLC included in disc or download, although you required the purchase of a key to unlock it, not much different that this.

Am not in favor of this, fuck them, but this is nothing new. its nintendo catching on with the times, since their president is pretty much an accountant unlike iwata which was a game developer/gamer, made president. or the cunning old man Yamaushi back on nintendo first days, hell even reggie is better.

Did you fellas knew Reggie used to work for pitzza-hut marketing?

I feel sorry for smaller publisher's who pride themselves on putting out good physical releases since from what I've read Nintendo are only offering one cartridge size for on cart releases and it happens to be one thats way to big for small 4 - 8GB indie / AA games.

You are already seeing the difference between Switch 1 / 2 cross-platform releases with Square Enix and Atlus who are releasing actual physical carts for the former and key cards for switch 2.

That said if you don't like it just don't buy it, it sucks but physical media has been getting phased out for the last 15 or so years.

I think this generation will be the last you see of "physical" media ::frown

Welp, we better just get used to game key cards because Nintendo told their investors that they are here to stay. Game companies sometimes lie to their customers but when it comes to investors they tell the truth. So if they told their investors that the game key cards are staying, that means they're staying.

So yeah, pirate all Nintendo games.

Then that means that nintendo is likely going to lose it's third parties....again.
