Is anyone else mad about the Switch 2's TOS and the game carts with no game data on them?

Apparently in the Switch 2's terms of service you cannot mod the switch 2 in any way, not even to replace broken or faulty parts because if you do Nintendo can remotely brick your console. You don't actually own the Switch 2 you just own the license. Oh, and the game carts with no game data on them, just a download key, so you don't actually own you games either. You know what I say? If purchase isn't ownership then piracy isn't stealing.

No, not really. At least they have an actual cartridge to sell, unlike some physical Switch releases that had download codes only. There were also bundles of older games that had one game on the cart and the others a download code (both before and after companies started selling Switch cartridges that were able to hold two games on them). Also, game companies have been doing this sort of thing since the inception of digital downloads. (LOOKING AT YOU, PRO SKATER 5!!!!!!) I am mad about the TOS, though it still doesn't bother me very much.

This new generation.... IDK about it. Nintendont turned into crazy capitalist machine. When I saw the refreshed OLED model I was like wtf is going on with video gaming. Then the news about switch 2 games and how they are going about handling the switch 1 with switch 2 introduction, not to mention the price increase on Xboxes. It's kind of like... Wtf is going on in the home console area. I can buy a Chromebook and run Nvidia play and Xbox play and have a decent library of games.

It comes down to companies wanting 500 for a console and a 20 dollar a month subscription to keep there lifestyles adequate. Ive opted out of lots of companies especially when they arrive at this point in there operations

Can't say with everything I've heard that I'm in a terribly big hurry to get a Switch 2, that's for sure.

I predict it'll have strong sales at first but then things will taper off, it might even flop. This might be the Wii U all over again.

Disappointed would be a better word to describe my feelings about the whole thing I guess. I legit don't see much wrong in them trying to protect their intellectual property against piracy but I'm still sorta worried about how crazy they are going to get with this and what that will mean for the future of emulation and physical media.

I guess Nintendo are putting their foot down on piracy and I don't blame them. Seeing people stole Tears of the Kingdom in the first week like seriously? Yet those people question why Nintendo are behind in terms of hardware.

I say wait until the game AND the console are discontinued before pirating it. Also, someone will figure out how to crack the Switch 2 and its games eventually. I just hope they don't go gung ho from the gates about it. Give it some time before sailing the high seas in Nintendo's waters.

Doubt it, people are spiteful. People steal Nintendo's games for petty reason like "oh they don't bring down the prices of their games" or "they don't allow people having Smash Bros Tournaments for profit".

Dont care really, At the end of the day. Nintendo will crawl back to the consumers like the dogs they are. They have one game at launch, and a console at a price point to a PS5. Why would anyone buy there kids Super Mario Kart World when they can get a PS5, fortnite and call of duty in the same system? They don't even have voice chat in Mario Kart still. Plus a Xbox series S is cheaper and does what the PS5 can do for cheaper.
I'm patiently waiting on the emulation to kick off.

To detect those, you'll need to be online, and if Switch 1 is anything to go on, you'll be able to block any Nintendo server tracking you if you do mod your system.

That sounds extremely dumb of Nintendo to do that to any Switch 2 consoles if you have to replace parts for them, (looks like a lot of people will be buying more then one Switch 2) and the whole game carts with no games on them is a dumb idea too, as it should have the actual game on it and not any download key on the cart.

Wasn't BOTW playable on emulators like a week before release? That must have really left some trauma for nintendo. Like I said, can't really blame them but maybe they still should chill out a bit.

So far what we know suggest that you really can not do nothing about the hardware/firmware without going through nintendos servers. Any hardware change could easily trigger the system to panic and wait for the servers to answer its call for help for example. And of course bricking the system unless it gets a green light from the Big N. I'm sure any system could be cracked with the right people and enough motivation but it's not like this helps to get more people motivated.

That being said I don't like the digital cartridges but we are going to eat that format like any other bullshit the industry tried to impose

Yes but not quite as hard I think. You could maybe get banned from using the services but still be able to play physical games and use the device otherwise. Nintendo seems to suggest here that the hardware is part of that service they offer.

Maybe I am getting a bit mad about this lol.

I'm interested to see how it;ll work out. Though, I honestly think a cart with no data is a little ridiculous.

I enjoy the idea of sharing a digital game (license) or reselling it, even. I just think they've found a silly way of realizing it.

I've said it before, if their online shop was perpetual (think Valve's Steam) and the games you had a digi-cart for wouldn't become inaccessible, I'd be a little more easy on the whole thing. But looking at how they nix old shops and services, I'm none too confident in the purchase.

Also, on that note, my guess is that the license cards are gonna be one of the first things hacked and peeps will eventually be able to load a license key for different games and spoof the eshop into whatever DL they want instead of what's either on the cart or there'll be spoof carts. Just a thought.

Well so far it worked backwards. Customers are pretty forgiving to anything Nintendo does. Mainly bc it's not that outraging in 2025, everything is digital and you own almost nothing from major players. But big advantage Nintendo has are exclusive games. So yeah, its a big test if it will work out for them, but not especially difficult test to be fair.
