Is anime only for children ?

It does seem like a bit of a leading question. I think usually with threads like this, someone will eventually post an angry screed about the superiority of anime over all mediums and swear fealty to glorious Nippon, and then you get a bunch of "Actually cartoons *are* for children" posts hoping to distance themselves from that embarrassment.

On-topic, animation is just a medium; it can be for any audience. Obvious answer, I'm already bored with myself.

I've heard similar comments but I feel like there's really nothing to gain about engaging in such a discussion. I would just be branded a weirdo at best and then have to deal with being "the guy who watches those childrens cartoons".

This is Google's response. Thoughts & comments. I'm sure Google's response triggers everyone.

Interesting view .

Yah there's obviously no point in even asking since there's lots of anime directed to adults, and even then, it can be enjoyed by anyone, not necessarily part of the targeted audience.

I would think that anime a lot of anime is designed so that it can be enjoyed by children but adults with disposable income to spend on vast swathes of tie-in merchandise are probably a major target audience.

Well in the 90s, Anime was marketed at older kids and adults in the US and we would get a lot of direct to video ultra violent anime, like Fist of the North Star, Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in a Shell, Battle Angel Alita, etc... Because it was a niche collector thing and adults/teens have more money to spend on high end VHS/laserdiscs of Anime. So a lot of Animes that were more directed at the older audience. There were Animes on TV but they had to be censored for content and running time, so it wasn't ideal.

I'm not sure ultra gory Anime for older kids/adults is still a thing, but what your friend said is decidedly not true.

Why, why do you think that?
I'm not serious about that actually!

Anime is not essentially made for children. There are animes aimed to younger audiences and others to more mature ones!

And it's fine. People saying otherwise are just plain wrong.

Sadly I'm afraid to let you know that anime is in fact for children only. It is a law that has been passed globally and If you watch anime with your adult eyes you can face up to 1000 years dungeon.
"I'mma pop out and ask the neighbor kid what's happening on Betterman, if anyone asks I'm meeting some guys in the woods to whittle and bitch about the Astros."

Come on man, you know the answer to your post without needing to post it lol
Animation (anime or otherwise) is just another form of media and as such can be targeted to any demographic. I know that you know there are anime shows and movie that aimed for kids, teens and adults.
Anyone who says anime is for kids only are simply trying to instigate and what they actually mean is they consider animation in general to be associated with children only, which is an opinion sourced from naivety and nothing more.

People who say shit like this just have no enjoyment in life because they hide behind society's lame excuse of "You're grown now act it" when in actuality, most people who get nerdy about these things tend to be happier than the dude who is anal about what others do in their free time.

This is something that I've beaten myself down about quite a bit, It's hard sometimes to justify why I like the things I like because of what society has deemed acceptable, but that isn't the point. We have such finite lives here on Earth and I'm gonna try to get as much enjoyment as possible out of it, with the least amount of drama.

I just went through an old cartoon called Code Lyoko, used to see it on TV as a kid but I'd switch stations because it was weird. Now that I actually sat through it I regret not watching it as a kid, kid me would've loved it. That's how I justify the things I enjoy, and it's not really like I care, like fuck yeah I like cartoons do something about it.

I wonder what the world would look like if everyone genuinely lived their lives like this. No drama and everyone just doing fun things for fun.
Love&Piece and all that. Fun for everyone and no one will get away unsatisfied.

Well, we'd be living in a utopia alright, unfortunately, people thrive off of drama, especially lately with Social Media, and Celebrity Grifters (YouTubers and Streamers being the biggest example of this.)

Seriously too, seems like nobody wants anyone to enjoy shit anymore. I've seen like 7 different internet personalities dogging on the newest Doom game because "it's slow" "the music sucks because Mick is gone"

Like come on the game is good, and it definitely isn't slow. Sorry to derail, this shit has been bugging me heavily.
