I have very few friends ,all of them don't speak English someone really can't recommend something like FF7 to them ,Altough i have one friend that is good in English but we don't have the same wavelength in gaming .he like pokemon I like digimon ,I like fighting games he doesn't ,he enjoys shooter i do not (most of times)
,Altough we do enjoy similar games here and there .but what really sadden me is that I really couldn't enjoy fighting games with my friends to a competitive level they suck

Yeah, one of my closest friends are as much into retro games as I am, but we live far away from each other now though, so we can't exactly play locally. I have a few more adjacent friends who are also retro enthusiasts. Then there's my younger brother (27) who likes old games as much as new games (like me) but he's gotta be in the mood. I've been showing him a bunch of Japan-exclusive SNES RPGs that sort of rekindles his interest in retro. My even younger brother (20) loves playing retro Nintendo games together, because he loves Mario. We have an unfinished Mario Party 3 game I'm keeping a save state on for when he gets back from his far-away studies.

My main gang of three best friends aren't particularly into retro, or rather, they're not actively exploring old games the same way me and people on this site do. They like the old games they grew up with, but they don't seek out new retro games as often, unless it's something I badger them to play because I know they'll like it (it usually works since we know each other so well).

Now that I think about it, no, I don't have an IRL friend who's as much into retro gaming as I am.

But really, if your friends are interested in video games at all, or they're interested in learning about your hobbies more generally, it's about finding a way to sell it to them. As in, making them understand why you like such and such thing.

Why are you playing Super Mario Bros in 2025? Why are you playing Suikoden or Wild Arms in 2025? Those are just examples, but as long as your friends are open-minded about people's interests, it's about sharing what you like about stuff... and accepting that you'll be the nerd of the group, maybe.

I have one good friend that does like some retro games but he mostly plays modern PC games. He also moved about an hour away, so we only see each other a few times a year.

Unfortunately, I don't have any friends nearby that enjoy retro games or would want to get together to play some couch co-op stuff. It's too bad, would be a lot of fun to get together and game every few weeks or so.

In highschool my best friend and I were very into retro games. We had very similar tastes, then that friendship ended. Anyways, I have yet to meet anyone who even cares about emulating games in general.

A friend from school used to be, but the whole "Work is my life" philosophy toke him over.
The few that I Have today are either Young Baby boomers or old Gen x fellows that we connect via Martial Arts, bar and restaurants hoppings and occasional training camps.

No. Mainly because we talk about other things and I rarely bring up games except for the newer stuff. One reaction I remember getting was when I was in middle school and I told someone that I played DOOM. They didn't know what it was, so I showed them. The proceeding reaction was "how can anyone play that? This game looks like shit, the graphics aren't good", and quite honestly, I wanted to jump him after school.

I'm the "old games dude" of my friends of my gaming circle of friends.

One is a gacha player, other is a MOBA player (even played for a team in competitions) and the another one is a MH fan. We all play modern games tho.

I don't really see myself as a retro gamer because I ended up as a retro gamer by the passage of itself.

I really love the mid-5th to 7th generation of gaming since it was the timeframe I grew up with and is my focus so, as long time flows, those generation will become retro.

For punches you mostly use your triceps and the usual torque and hip.
The sense of camaraderie is a big plus for me.

Hm, i wouldn't consider him IRL since i've never met him, but he does like retro games and lives close to me. We've played a few old games online and he's into gaming as much as i am. As for IRL friends, i don't got any except for a few coworkers. They are not really into old games at all, even some PS4 games are "too old" for them even tho they play LoL and like, that's an old game so i don't understand hah.
