Cartoons Invader Zim!

This was like a kind of secret Nickolodeon cartoon when I watched it. The thing is, the Nickelodeon channel here only showed it somewhere around midnight and I actually stayed up late just to see it. I don't know why they did that...maybe it might scare some very young children? There were a couple of scary images that I think if my 5 year old self saw it, would get nightmares for sure.

In any case, I loved every episode. Also, I remember when I bought Destroy All Humans on my PS2, I was delighted to find the alien commander had Zim's voice. It certainly made my playthrough more interesting...was hoping I'd catch some Invader Zim rants when he speaks.

Those are called "re-runs" my friend. And yes, eventually on this BRAND SPANKIN NEW LAPTOP I splurged on myself (along with 2 shirts I previously mentioned in a post on here) ... I need to install the PS2 emu & play the thing like it was meant to be. Never did finish DAH on the actual PS2 I had ... so I never got to try 2 (for PS2) or Big Willy Unleashed on Wii (also modded).

only girl my ass. Every damn girl at Hot Topic was buying this. I literally still found 2 IZ shirts there before Christmas & did the whole "treat yo'self". Hell, what else am I going to do with all this money? LOL. I gave enough away, gotta treat my self when I can.
The only girl I knew who watched it where I lived was me.
Most of the other girls, at school, were what I’d call stereotypical, self-centered bimbo types when I was in high school. So, yeah, I was the only girl I knew who watched Zim. Even the girls at Hot Topic here were mostly just playing Dress-up goth for a job.

You're not lying. Some of them you could tell didn't belong there & they just did it for a paycheck. Some, on the other hand, it was home. I wanted to move in. ;-) For the swag of course. Yeah ... that's it. JUST the swag gear. I swear. Spencer's was overstaffed. ;-)

Yeah, Spencer's is overrated.
At least when I was going to Hot Topic, it was...
And no, most of the girls that worked at my local one... well, you can't really call yourself a goth if you squeal and almost piss yourself over justin fuckin' Bieber, now can you? That was the level of poser goths they had working at Hot Topic in my area.

I couldn't get a job there.. Suppose I wasn't upbeat enough. And I told the manager to go jolly well fuck himself when he accused me of shoplifting, which I didn't. And I may or may not have punched him square in the face, too. Not the point.

Sure, that had ABSOLUTELY no bearing on me not getting a job there.

You know, Enter the Florpus just didn't sit right with me, it seemed off....

Okay for this show, off was the norm, but I dunno it was too clean, too well done. It didn't have that "What the fuck am I looking at?" feeling the original had. But it had been off the air for, what, 15? 20? years at that time.. And well, we don't know what JV was going through or what had changed, or the like.

And well, the movie was again too streamlined. It looked too... normal, like everything else at that time (think Steven Universe) But hey, at least we got something.

I do wish they would have finished up the show or completed the already done scripts... at least the Last Episode "Ten Minutes to Doom" The unfinished scripts were kind of interesting reads.

To those saying we need a new series... no, no we don't.

The show doesn't need a reboot, at least not now. It wouldn't work in today's market, and nostalgia can only take you so far. I doubt the show would do well, and they would want to change too much about it.
We would end up with another Teen Titans GO and you know how fuckin' awful that show is.

It got canceled before for being too dark and edgy, and that's when the show was flying. Now, people get easily offended, and the show would be seen as too offensive for most modern viewers, without Turning it into a Shell of it's former self.

It was made for the 2000s, and that's where it should stay.

And to those saying GIR needs his own show..
Also no. GIR worked when he had something to bounce off of. Go watch half an hour or more of nothing but GIR... he's adorable and psychotic and i LOVE the character... but that will get old quickly.

He works as a story element, something to cause destruction, Chaos or a Plot device... kind of like the running gag of Kenny dying in South Park, funny once per episode, but not for a half-hour.

So no.... Invader Zim will always be that weird 2000's show, that was too weird and deranged for normal kids, and still somehow got an animated show on Nickelodeon.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, Z.

The movie definitely had a "Netflix" quality to it, which only ever means that it was afraid of letting itself be and breathe. It hurt seeing Invader Zim (a show that rewards paying attention to its madness) being remade for the "looking-at-my-phone-half-the-time" crowd. That said, I loved what they did to Dib. We needed that as much as he did.

Also agree on GIR... he works best as a foil to Zim's plans, the little empty-headed robot that would actually make a better invader because he can actually blend in. We don't need to know his whereabouts, thoughts and actions all the time (in fact, the show was at its best when GIR just vanished for a few hours and returned home from night outs of whatever. Or when he sat in front of the TV or while in the process of making waffles). GIR's brand of madness is a lot like Elvira's (from Pinky, Elvira & The Brain) -- you don't need either front and center or it becomes overwhelming.

Indeed.

Have you read the unproduced scripts? It looked like it was really going to come together.

At least we got the movie.
I never got around to actually read then, but I recall hearing about then a bit. I recall they had to choose one more episode to finish and they decided to do the Christmas one and honestly it was a great decision as its easily one of my favorite ones, even if we don't even get an explanation to why Minimoose is there.

Also I agree with the general sentiment that the film was too safe/modernized. And while it's easy to blame Netflix or the producers, a lot of that movie was taken from the Zim comic that was going on at the time and that was supposedly made with full freedom, but ended up sharing the same problems as the film...

I didn't know this, but I'm glad you mentioned it because I couldn't stick with the comic, despite desperately wanting to. And I don't think I was the only one, either, because there was an IZ community (won't name it) that had lived on table scraps and fandom ever-since the show's cancellation, yet they didn't seem to embrace or celebrate the comic nearly as much as you'd think they would -- they had been starved of IZ content for a solid decade at that point and had taken to even review the unreleased scrips for literal years, yet they didn't seem to enjoy the comic.

I don't remember anything super wrong with it, it just wasn't clicking.
