Hello RGT!
As you all know, we have an excellent and expanding community here: Large, lively, engaging and active in a way that seems to almost delight in giving the middle finger to an online landscape which has all but written off forums as relics of the past.
Yet somehow, despite these conditions, we continue not only to survive, but thrive. That is a testament to the strength of your passion.
However, we understand that such levels of activity can easily become way, WAY too distracting, especially with how the digital world is now designed, rewarding short, impersonal, almost transactional interactions in the form of "likes" and "upvotes", rather than actual conversations.
As a result, we have seen many people opt to delete their accounts entirely, in order to avoid allocating too sizeable a chunk of their limited free time to posting on the board.
We will always respect this decision, but if we're being totaly honest, we really hate losing you.
So instead of settling into a begrudging acceptance, we put our heads together, and listened carefully to your suggestions in the Ask the Mods AMA, and we think we have come up with something that will (hopefully!) enable everyone to find some happy medium between being hot-wired into the community 24/7, and being removed from it entirely.
For that reason, we proudly present Away Mode!
What's "Away Mode"?
It's a way for you to temporarily disable your account so that it can remain perfectly preserved - wholly intact, but without being able to post -- it basically lets you go on vacation for as long as you like, without having to sacifice your account or membership to do so.
And, once you decide to return, Away Mode will be lifted, and you will have all previous permissions, privileges and posting history returned to you.
If you're interested, please DM a member of staff for more information, or to request that your account be temporarily placed into Away Mode.
