12 hours for a simple 300 mg file is absurd. I've had a literal 15,000 ping on a foreign server, but that's unacceptabl

I'd like to find a website with a list of all Windows versions accessible with just a single click to download, instead of spending hours searching for the correct software or functional

Then donate, and get other people to donate. They're a non-profit and servers aren't free. Neither are all the lawsuits they're always dealing with.
This is the first time I felt like donating. I didn't donate before because I didn't have the money (it's still like that today)

Someone told me (idk how true it is), that about 11 months ago or so, they had to close one of their servers. During that period we went from passable download times to not-so-passable download times. Consider supporting them if you can

Let’s be real: calling the Internet Archive “horrible” is a massive exaggeration. Sure, it’s not perfect, no platform hosting millions of files for free ever is but it’s still one of the most important digital preservation projects on the internet. If you’re experiencing 12-hour download times for a 300 MB file, that’s not a universal issue. That’s likely a problem with your connection, routing, or ISP throttling. Plenty of users consistently get normal speeds, especially when using a VPN routed through the U.S. or downloading via torrent, which the Archive often provides for larger files.

The Internet Archive isn’t some fly-by-night operation, it’s a nonprofit that’s been archiving websites, books, software, music, and video for over two decades. It’s used by researchers, developers, historians, and everyday users who want access to content that would otherwise be lost media. Complaining about download speeds without understanding the infrastructure behind it is like blaming a library because your car broke down on the way there.

And about finding Windows versions? That’s just not true. There are entire curated collections on the Archive with direct links to Windows ISOs, organized by version, language, and architecture. You can literally search “Windows ISO collection site:archive.org” and get pages with one-click downloads. If you’re spending hours searching, you’re either not using the search tools properly or ignoring the fact that many of these collections are indexed externally on GitHub, Reddit, or archival forums.

So no, the Internet Archive isn’t horrible. It’s a treasure trove of digital history, and if you know how to navigate it, it’s incredibly useful. Blaming the platform for your own technical limitations or lack of search strategy doesn’t hold up. If you want fast downloads and clean organization, learn how to use torrents, VPNs, and advanced search filters. The tools are there, you just have to use them.

that's weird. i was getting some stuff from them the other day, and the download speed seemed fine to me. granted, i have my download manager set to 4mbs, so i probably wouldn't have noticed it being slow. hopefully they can get some upgrades to their site soon.

the new UMG lawsuit must have hit them pretty hard

most of their stuff have torrent files which I believe should be faster
they are supposedly faster, but a lot of collections on there have incomplete torrents. you'll get like a few items out of the full download set because of how terrible the torrents are set up.

Seems fine to me, and even if it wasn't, I feel like IA is one of the only places online that doesn't deserve entitled scorn. They do good work and I know some good people who work for them.

Odd, seems to be running pretty fast on my end, and I am going through a VPN ::cirnoshrug

Such websites using multiple servers so it seems we may think not every server has the same allowed download speed. Also of course load on the particular server during heavy load will reduce download speed too, which is why sometimes websites and whatever you download from them may have low download speed.

Think of it like water pipe. If lots of faucets are turned on to flood water out, the network's flow will be reduced because same amount of water that coming will be divided to spread them out to faucets the water could reach, therefore, for further faucets in the network in the way when they are turned on there won't be much water can reach them or not at all. That's the way it's.

So it means download speed is like "top speed" of car that means according to laws of physics it's the top speed the car can go vroom in specific conditions lol, but it doesn't mean the car always will go vroom at top speed due to situations that prevents it from accelerating due to "load".

Absolutely they don't. The free service they provide is absolutely invaluable, even if you took away the rather dubiously gray area files that get uploaded and they have. It's still basically a modern-day Library of Alexandria

I just checked internet archive and the download speed is good, the problem seems to be on your end.

Maybe you're having trouble with the screwdriver.

It varies. Sometimes it's slow, sometimes it's fast. A bunch of stuff was removed. It's tough to find archives of some sites too. But i still use it often.

I totally get the frustration. I have bad internet where I live so it makes the website run really bad. It could be something to do with your provider or any modems you've got. I do get it though, it gets on my nerves too but it's a valuable resource even if it's "horrible" or "excellent." I will agree, sometimes the downloads can be a bit fishy but it's fine.

I recommend donating to help their cause.
