PC internet archive is horrible now

This seems like a post of "I want to complain about something, there you go!", and after that thing is working, everything disappears.

Also, the same move as 99% of the time, which is "I want to donate, but hey, it is not that bad, I will wait a little more. I really want to donate, maybe I'll do it later, or tomorrow, or next month...but it is not that bad. It's ok, it finally downloaded", and then never donated.
"There's no better day to support others than tomorrow." At least that's what I heard the day before.

In this topic what I see is it's usually the expression when a person for the first time pays for "higher than usual" download speed ISP service believing it will always grant them that much speed everywhere anytime or paying for such services but it was the first time they exprienced low internet speed so they are like "it's your issue if my download speed is low". This is because of tons of variety of reasons + this thing is how internet works so sometimes it's not even an issue. It's like saying "your smoke is shit because I can't burn it up in space!!!" lolol

Another version of the same frustration is because of torrents. Simply put countries started to ban certain connections a torrent uses to download, therefore these banned connections cannot contribute to your download speed in a way some torrents download too slow or not at all despite others showers "dude this torrent is lightning fast!!!" lol. In a way there may be ISP policy to detect and slow down internet speed from connections that are added into "illegal ones" or something too. In some countries your ISP directly splashes "dude don't download illegal shit m'kay" message, some directly sends cops on ya and some just ignores you lol.

For example around the first time my country attempted to make internet safe and combat piracy they found some scapegoats to scare off so they put a guy who downloaded trial version of a program from the program's website into jail for 2 years and he was crying AF on the news "but it's a free thing, a test thing" and back then our laws didn't make realistic distiction between legal ways of downloading free versions of paid programs lolol.

That's why still to this day to download trial version of Winrar on their official website I first wear my plain black terrorst mask and leather gloves -> I boot up my heavily modified Linux PC and activate a VPN -> I activate my trojan I put into the random far away cafe that has a public internet access so anyone who knows the password may use (it makes hacking them easier!!00100001) -> I re-direct Winrar's trail version download connection being "bounced up" from the PC of the cafe to my designated Virtual PC that you use via streaming on a server you have no idea where it is on Earth by "masking" its connection as one of the known Microsoft's IP address -> after I download the Winrar I download it from the Virtual PC and put it into my USB to the PC I want to install -> I completly destroy the Linux PC I used to download Winrar alongside with the USB stick via acid to destroy evidences for good -> I enjoy closing "me are small indie compnay, please buy Winrar" message everytime I use it. lolol

Me downloading free version of Winrar by hacking because my country is fuck!! lolol

That's pretty much around the same speed I get with IDM (Internet Download Manager) with a VPN on too. With that aside, @Cawl if you haven't already, try using IDM from Tonec. It comes with a convienient extension for whatever browser you're using (I'm using WaterFox) to download media too, even from YouTube. It also has a fee trial for... 30 days? I think? 30, 60, 90, idk. Anyway, It's price is pretty reasonable for a lifetime license too.
Very cool, but like @ScriptorFaust stated, I am using Linux as well. But I rarely, and honestly couldn’t tell you when I had a download drop or right out not complete, me stopping it notwithstanding, mind you. I honestly haven't needed a download manager since the dial-up days. But that sounds like a good option for someone who may have less than stable internet access.

And I have my own methods and ways of Yoinking media from websites as well as YouTube, albeit they aren't completely legal ways, but that's still neat

I have noticed that download speeds can be all over the place. Some days it's fine and other days can be quite slow. I just wait and try again later sometimes.

I get you. I do a little snagging myself if need be. For example if there's no demo available for a game I'm interested in, I'll get on board the ship. The only time I really have issues with internet speed is through MyPal when I'm on my WinXP computer, but that's pretty much understandable. I've been curious about Linux though, I know there's several builds for it, but I need to find the time to learn how to use it. I used to work with Commodore/Amiga and DOS in the past but not sure if Linux is more complicated.

Internet on a XP system, that's brave to be sure
I've been curious about Linux though, I know there's several builds for it,
More like 600 to nearly 1,000 different distros or builds anymore
but I need to find the time to learn how to use it. I used to work with Commodore/Amiga and DOS in the past but not sure if Linux is more complicated.
Linux anymore is more or less like using Windows. Long gone are the hours of running commands to get things installed. Hell, they have a built-in feature that would equate to the Microsoft Store now on most, if not all, distros (Distros like Puppy Linux not withstanding) Honestly, I never fooled with Commodore or Amiga PCs. I did DOS ages ago but have forgotten most if not all, of it. ::cirnoshrug

But yeah, Linux is more or less an easy OS to use anymore, unless you're going for Arch (By the way). ::sailor-embarrassed

Arch It isn't ungodly hard but not very user friendly, to be sure. I would try something simple at first, like Linux Mint or Peppermint OS, maybe even Zorin or Kubuntu. ::megadancebaby

Fun fact: You can run Linux off a USB drive to try it out. It will work fully, albeit a touch slower than it would if fully installed, but not enough to make that large of a difference. ::cirnoshrug

Very brave tbh, lol. There are a few people out there trying to keep XP alive, but anymore it's only useful for old games and/or apps that only run in XP or later.

I love exploring custom OS for example, idk if you know this one, TeamOS is a site with all sorts of custom builds for Windows, Mac and Linux. The custom builds for Windows are pretty touchy though because the publisher, "unbloats" the OS and that can conflict with games and/or programs you might use that may require what the publisher took out. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, thank you so much though on your advice about Linux and conversation in general. I'm not the fastest when it comes to learning, but determination makes up for that. I have to repeatedly study stuff to finally get it right, but in the long run it gets me to understand more than needed. Last, I'm not very social these days because there just seems to be way too much sensitivity in a lot of people anymore and I rarely take things personal, but it's seems more common that I would say the wrong thing without intending too which leads me to keep to myself. Political junk seems to be like gasoline over a fire anymore. It's to the point that I get over-anxious to chat with anyone because I'm really not out to offend anyone.

Fair enough

Read about TeamOS never used it however. For my uses, I didn't seem worth getting into, as I have older PCs for stuff if I need them. But it's still a neat OS anyway

Ya welcome, and don't worry about it on my end. I understand a lot of people get offended over almost nothing anymore, and I myself watch my P's and Q's on the forum. But you would have to openly try to offend me, I’ve got pretty thick skin, as they say. I get where you are coming from.

As for taking time to learn. Especially if I have no interest in it, it's almost like a funnel, in and right back out, ya some things I have to go over myself a few times before it sticks in my Swiss cheese brain, as Dr. Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap said. But nice chatting with you. I will catch you on the forum. Have a good one

Sam Beckett. That's a show I haven't watched in a long time. The first episode of Quantum Leap had me hooked for the rest of the series. But yeah, I hope to chat with you and your holy cheese brain again. Mine's like a traffic jam full of smog itself, if you ask me what I'm thinking I wouldn't be able to tell. Also, I don't mind anyway you want to speak your mind, you're human (at least I think you are (joke)) just like the rest of us.

Okay, well dinner is all ready to be taken out of the crock pot so I'll be around later. Take care and stay awesome possum.

I haven't had any issues downloading, but I usually select the torrent option for my downloads. I also donate and encourage anyone who uses it to donate as well.

And making a hyperbolic thread about a non-profit repo while also not donating makes you look bad OP

use always an external download manager. I use FDM.

BTW you can also download rented books via external utils
