Is it possible to increase the limit of files uploaded to posts? I often record footage for games and would be interested in posting clips directly to threads in the forum. I see it supports video uploads but the limit seems awfully low.

Probably won't happen.

Problem with that is that the server may get overloaded with one-use images and videos. Forums and websites have been historically wary of that, and with good reason.
we could make it pay-to-win and allow only donators to upload large files ::dkapproves ::dkapproves ::dkapproves

wanted to upload a 4MB gif file yesterday couldn't cause of the file size

Converting it to webp and turning down the quality works. You can really reduce the size of animations that way.

Xenforo forums are compatible with webp now ?

I remember a time when Xenforo just showed webp as generic files but maybe that's cause i'm used to awfully outdated forums

Yeah, there used to be some issues with webp not getting embedded.
After Spike migrated servers they starting working.

::omgdoom I never thought to try out gif2webp (also didn't know embedded webp was a thing here), but wow! Even without playing with any optimization/lossy command options (just default) it is more than 1/3 in file size decrease O_o Which is pretty much what you saw for that .gif Really cool ::thank-you

I said this in another message like this.
It's due to limited space and internet speed. RGT server is not a multimillion-dollar server or connected to a very expensive internet server costing over thirty thousand dollars a month. If every user could upload, say, fifty megabyte files each, just imagine how lagged the server would become.

Not to mention the storage space. RGT's server doesn't have hundreds of terabytes of space.
I don't know exactly how much it has, but it certainly isn't what say MegaUpload, Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive have.

As for the internet speed, I am guessing it's The Boss man's own internet.
I might be wrong, that's just a guess. Again, it's not on a 20 Mbps service.

yes please, increase it to 50MB

realistically how many people are gonna be uploading shit at the same time all the time, that is gonna make the server shit himself. ::beer

50MB is a fucking lot, 20 files hitting that limit and you're already at a gigabyte

storage is cheap when you get it for your own machine but when you rent that shit at a hosting provider it really is not

Yeah I don't think this is all that feasible. If you want to upload images or video, you need to figure out ways to optimize and compress, not just up the file size limit on uploads.

As someone who is a webmaster on other sites, increasing file upload size limits is a disaster. Do you know how expensive it would be to host all those files on the server indefinitely? And if they were got rid of after a certain time period, we'd have a bunch of dead/dying/empty threads with half their post content missing.

Our current limits make sense IMO. If you want to upload videos, why not just upload them to a service like YouTube as unlisted and then share them in the thread that way? Then, Google are having to shell out for the server costs, instead of Spike.

This was discussed before and was turned down. Reasons were greatly outlined by Zerp (in both threads).
