In your opinion, is it better to play one game at a time or spread yourself among many games at the same time?

I know fun should be the main goal and you shouldn’t let gaming become a chore, etc. I just feel like I bounce from different games I’ve emulated, to console games, to computer games. So any games that require time to progress, end up suffering.

I wonder if it would be better to just play one game on one console for a while until I feel like I’ve done all I could on that game, and/or got all the enjoyment out of it…and then move on.

In a way, I could treat them like I do books. I like to just download one ebook at a time until I finish it. Not that I can complete many games, just an example. But I think it helps to focus on one thing and constantly come back to it.

I don’t care about finishing games, I just feel like I have a lot of games that I’ve hardly explored fully. I just played Midnight Club today, which I’ve had for like 20 years or more, and realized that I barely did more than the arcade mode back then.

What do you do in your gaming life? Do you barely start a bunch of games or you try to stick with one game at a time?

One game at a time.
Since playing multiple games at once would be kinda overwhelming for certain people.

But trying to don't repeat the same game genres, if I played a JRPG, I will not play another one after finishing the previous one.

i'd say one game at a time unless you are perfectly fine with writing a lot of notes for each game that you are playing. some games keep track of your progress, but a lot don't. i had to start a few games over again because i didn't remember what i was doing.

I tend to stay in a game for a long time, if I get a bit overwhelmed or side-tracked then I play another one. This circle continues a bit with like 2 or 3 games I tend to play at one time, then when I need to advance through a few levels then I "Lock-In" the game until I finish it.

Typically, I do a max of three current ones, and don't do sequels to games that I just finished immediately. Run a couple different ones in the meantime, and then do those. It's what's kept me from burning out.

Thanks, I might give it a try. I think I still have the newness of emulation in my mind. So I get caught up in wanting to add many more than I could actually ever play.

I used to be in a similar place with my reading. I’d check what books are offered for free on Amazon and add a lot of them. Then I got to a place where I actually tried to read the ones I owned first.

I'm trying to play multiple games, but it's running over 10 games now. I won't be able to finish them anytime soon!

And when that happens you kinda get bogged down since the game is stuck with you unfinished for so much longer that it becomes tempting to abandon it. I'm going to just pick one now and focus on it till completion.

Usually I play like one game which is story/character driven to fully focus/immerse myself into, and a simpler game or two on the side for when I'm like too tired or unfocused to properly get into the former game.

I play one game at a time since if i jump to another one it will only make me play worse and forget what was i doing, or forget some plot point if there is any, when i resume it later

Better keep it classic and beat it in one go

I try to limit myself to one game per system. Like right now, I'm playing Resident Evil on the GameCube, Metroid Fusion on the Game Boy Advance, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS, and Super Mario RPG on the Nintendo Switch.

That allows me to switch to something different if I feel like it while still motivating me to finish games so that I can pick something different for the system.

I tend to limit myself to 1 game at a time, but if it is different genres then I try to go for maybe 2 games at once. I once tried juggling both Persona 4 and 2 on my PS Vita before dedicating most of my time to P4. When I played P2 or P4 exclusively I would occasionally take a few breaks to play minecraft or TF2 instead.

I have been in a similar situation once. I went back to some games I have had a for a long time and finished them and I say it was worth at least seeing them through to the end. It felt great. Sometimes you can take a step back to play one of those old games you've had for a long time.

You are definitely right in saying that focusing on one game helps. I say have a main game and a few chill ones that are easy to get in and out of like a racing game or a cool indie game. Or I guess any other hobbies if you have them instead

I juggle a few at a time. Right now I'm on-and-off between Contra Hard Corps, progressing in Doom 64 DC, and occasionally do a Crazy Taxi run. I also like to play on Insignia often.
I have been playing some Crazy Taxi too. That’s a fun one that you don’t really have to worry about progressing or even getting the high score. It’s fun without worrying about any of that, at least for me.

Currently spreading it, because my attention span is getting shorter and shorter and the games i currently played were just too damn long.

WWE2K17(i played the PS3 version) has this weird way to unlock things such as win 110 matches, play as a superstar 20 times, etc.

Dynasty Warriors 7XL has many stuff to unlock like any musou game.

And i also play Granblue Fantasy,a gacha which has way too many stuff to grind.

It depends entirely on the game, when one game entertains me enough I can play only that one until I finish it, otherwise I can be playing between 2 or 3.

for me it is one game at a time
i like to play rpgs that can be sometimes dozens of hours long - playing more than one of those kinds of games at once is asking for not only your attention but your time to now be split
at most i will play two games at once if they are in strongly different genres, such as a longform rpg and a short happy skiptime platformer, that is what i tend to do
