In This Thread I Will Finally Complete One Of The Greatest JRPG's Know To Man For The First Time (FF7)

I've been playing it all day I will give an update when I'm done playing for the day but I mad like A LOT of progress or at least I think I did. But yea I'll be here at like 8 or 9 PM to update you guys

On the first day and I already ran into an issue... Basically I don't know what happened but I came into my room from eating dinner and my PSP was on the floor turned off which clearly did not leave it there and especially off because I do not trust the rest mode on the PSP but now I am set back around 2 hours I wasn't actually doing much really just grinding enemies for EXP and gil but it did push me back on stuff I had already done so I am a bit upset so I'm just gonna do all of what I just did....again? Anyway this is going to push back my progress update to either real late at night or to tomorrow. But that was something bad BUT something good has happened as well! Where I live there is a snow storm so tomorrow I actually have a snow day (Yayyyyyy!) This means I can play for a way longer time and get soooo much more progress because 1. I can stay up late since I don't have to worry about waking up at 6 AM and 2. I can play all day tomorrow (duh) Anyway that's all I had to say but how is your day going?

I had just seen the flashback of what Sephiroth did in Nibelheim

How about scans of them? Spoilers within, naturally
Didn't even see this but actually thanks for sending these they just helped me in the game!

I have been playing for a bit now and have made some decent progress (I hope at least). From Yesterday to now here are my stat differences and all that along with where I have made it.
Still on Disc one
Two new party members
Character level range from yesterday was Lvl.8 - Lvl.10
Character level range now is Lvl.13 - Lvl.17

Please give me recommendations btw to actually show my progress to you other than just saying all that because I have no clue how to actually say my progress without just saying "I have gotten past blank part" if that makes any sense, but anyway now I want to talk about my opinion on the differences from FF7 to Remake and I will put it in spoilers but I will do that in the next post

I have just made it to Under Junon and have gotten Yuffie and Red XIII

Alright this has spoilers so skip this if you don't want to be spoiled.

Like I said on the first post in this thread I have played the remakes and not the original, that reason being was because I actually think its so hard to play older PS1 RPGs nowadays. That is just my opinion and of course I was just not around for that generation of gaming so I am more accustomed to modern gaming but this "challenge" of mine is actually teaching me that older RPGs are just way more fun than modern RPGs so after this I might play through some other PS1 RPGs including some other FF games.

But never mind all that let me get into the big differences of each game and what I think of it.

The first difference I want to talk about is the way you unlock Yuffie is way different than in Rebirth, in Rebirth you first meet her Under Junon but from what I've seen so far you could just skip having her in your party (Please let me know if I'm right on that guess because I'm kind of interested on that) But in the original I actually was just grinding enemies a bit on the map and ended up running into her and had to fight her and then after that is a scene where you talk to her and can get her in your party that way, I guess if she is optional I did all the right things to get her in my party.

Second difference that I think is really weird to me is how the story is told in remake, I forget who said it so sorry about that but someone in this thread said something about how in remake they messed with it a lot and I had kind of noticed it in the beginning of the game but the farther I get I realize they didn't even remake the game they just made a whole new game at this point, and while I still think the remakes are good stories the original (so far at least) is just so much better. Like for example going to Don Corneo's. In the original it's (in my opinion) way more funny and actually more fun to play compared to remake since all you have to do is just talk to people and get dressed and not to mention was only like 15 minutes of gameplay at the max, but on the other hand in remake you have to do so much bullshit and its not fun....like at all, in remake you have to do that stupid tournament and then also talk to people that work for Don Corneo I think and it was just super boring it was like 2 hours of mid, I actually remember I was watching Serial Experiments Lain on the side while playing it because I was so un-interested in what was actually going on.

Now for the last difference which my opinion may be controversial but its the combat. I do not really enjoy the ATB formula and its actually the reason its taken me so long to play some FF games I have bought like VI, IX and XIII (and me being IX and liking FF hurts that I haven't beat it), but the combat is just super annoying and the reason being is that while I'm thinking about my next move I can get hit or even in some cases I have died when I had just used a potion on a different character and then it gets used on the person with like a perfect amount of health and then just gets wasted. Along with that it's just annoying waiting to attack and it actually doesn't take that long but it's just super annoying especially because I actually don't mind Turn Based RPG's like many people, in fact I actually really like them most of the RPGs I would say that I actually really love are Turn Based. But now to the maybe/ maybe not controversial opinion being that I think the remakes combat is so much superior compared to PS1, but again it's just my opinion and I respect people who like this type of combat and I will still stick through with it and I'm actually starting to understand it more so I'm having a bit of fun with it rather than when I started when I would suck my teeth when a random encounter started, but now I'm actually stating to get excited when a fight starts so I can try my new weapon and my Materia

Anyway thank you so much for those who read this and sorry for such a long post I just had a lot to say and let me know your opinions on the combat I'm kind of interested to hear what you guys have to say on it

How far in are you right now? It’s really fun reading your adventure, but I don’t want to accidentally spoil something for you out of sheer excitement :)

lets decide on the punishment if you dont finish within the 10 days, i say we should pull out one of your teeth for every day passed the deadline
I say for every day over 10-days Final Fantasy VII goes unfinished we break them, crush them, or rip them off.

Yuffie is optional in the original, yes.
To speed things up, use the haste spell once you get it.
Fury will speed up your limit break at the expense of lowering your hit % (I think? That sounds right.)

Yuffie is optional. You don't have to recruit her but there's no reason not to really. There's another character later on who is also optional.

Remake loves to pad the crap out of the game. I swear by the time they complete it it will be a 1000h behemoth.

You can go into the settings menu and set the combat mode to 'wait'. You'll have all the time you need to think about your moves.

I will never understand why people think FF7 is the best of the best honestly it´s mid compared to FF6 or 8 or 9 or even 10. And on a JRPG scale it´s not even top 50. Don´t get me wrong it´s not a bad game but frack nostalgia makes peoples taste stay the same for 27 years.

Anyway good luck and enjoy.
It's almost as if different people like different things

I think it makes you take more damage. It's been a while since the last time I played.

And thank god she was an optional minor character after seeing what Nomura had planned for her in the Remake/Rebirth games. She's the epitome of cringe.

Interesting, would you not getting Yuffie effect the story in any way?

Just tried it right now and THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME ABOUT THE WAIT THING THIS MAKES IT SOOOO MUCH EASIER YOU ARE A ABSOLUTE LEGEND

That, I don't remember. She has a homeland you can go to either way, but it's been probably 15 years anyway since I last played it and it's fuzzy. I don't remember if not having her locks you out of content at all.

It's interesting you say that because I have been liking 7 more than I did 10 but I still enjoyed what I played of 10

It's Wutai right? I don't want to google anything on it and end up spoiling so I'm just gonna say no and see what happens

Yeah but this is not the case. FF7 being the best game ever made is like universal and not different people like different things. And idiot not liking the game and 20+ million living it that´s not different people like different things. That´s what called every one loves the same game but this one loser.

Yeah calling FF7 the best game ever made is a bit silly in the year 2025. However, there are a lot of things modern games could learn from FF7 about immersion and creating player investment from the get go. FF7 starts strong and the whole Midgar sequence is tight as hell.

Just because someone makes a list doesn't mean you have to agree with it. But it also doesn't mean the people saying that are wrong either. Taste is taste.

Yep, Wutai. You'll be able to go there before you know it. :)

Are people even saying it is the best game? I haven't seen anything like that

It’s one of the most acclaimed games ever, so there’s certainly a lot of people who has it as their favorite.

I can’t choose between 7, 5 and 10 as my favorite anymore but that’s a discussion for another thread.

And thank god she was an optional minor after seeing what Nomura had planned for her in the Remake/Rebirth games. She's the epitome of cringe.
Yeah her personality seems very overblown in the Remakes (but she’s one of my favorites in the original because she’s so cocky and mean), but I’ve gotten that vibe from several of the characters. Especially her and Aerith.

Yeah, her personality is the bratty girl/teen stereotype of Final Fantasy. There's always one of them in each game and they are almost always the worst character (Krile/Cara,Relm,Yuffie,Selphie,Eiko,Rikku,Vanille). Nothing personal, Yuffie, but I liked you more when you only had 3 or 4 lines in the game and you didn't have voice lines.

Its definitely fun to see how different old and new games are. New games benefit from so many wonderful advancements in technology and the like whilst older games have the benefit of being smaller budget affairs (typically) made by smaller teams that allowed for more creative freedom and unique quirks. Pros and cons and all that jazz.

Yeah the remake suffers from trying to be an expanded version that includes all of the original's content whilst stretching everything out to absurdity. Taking the 7-8 hour long Midgar section and making it a full 30ish hour game is brutal because while they did add a few hours worth of meaningful new content it mostly boils down to taking what was already there and stretching it out to the point of monotony. Definitely makes replays a pain in the ass too. The weird part is that it is clear from several moments in both parts of the Remake that they're ultimately going for some alternate timeline where certain characters are aware of what happened in the OG and are seeking to change things in this current timeline. Its both remake, reboot and sequel all at the same time and while that is super interesting I think it struggles to commit hard enough to being a unique experience because it forces itself to give you all of the things the original had.

Now for the last difference which my opinion may be controversial but its the combat. One thing I can recommend is turning the battle speed of the game up on the options. You don't have to crank it up all the way if you aren't confident, but you can shorten the time it takes for ATB gauges to fill by increasing the speed a bit. You could also go and change the ATB from Recommended to Active. On Recommended the ATB gauges will freeze during animations but in Active the bars will always fill up even during summons and such which can help the flow of battle by almost always giving you stuff to do.

Of course, speeding the game up can make things harder but I just figured it's worth noting in case you wanted to mess around with it all a bit. FF7 is a pretty easy game outside of a couple walls you can hit based on what your party setup is at certain points so I don't think you'll be in too tough of a situation if you decide to speed things up a bit.

Alternatively you can also max out the battle speed and then change the ATB type from Recommended to Wait. Wait will pause all gauges when you're in the menus setting up your next attack. Maxing out the battle speed means that the bars will fill incredibly fast and it more or less lets you turn the game from active time battle to just a weird turn based game, so to speak.

I can try and give a couple vague yet somewhat-spoilery tips on things you can miss that are worth getting if you'd like. A big one is coming up in the Shinra HQ (you've played Remake so you should know what I'm talking about) in the form of a materia tucked away on one of the floors.

Completely forgot to say anything about this in my post from earlier but what is up with the Whispers? Like why aren't they in the original, what ever the reason is I honestly prefer it because it was super confusing when Aerith is talking about the timeline or whatever

The correct question is why were the whispers added into the remake project? No one knows the answer to that. I doubt Hamaguchi, Kitase or Nomura know either. I'm sure they are trying to figure out how to tie together all the bullshit they've added to the original game.

I'm not sure what you mean by timelines, I don't think Aerith talks about that in the original.
