I think the Sonic movies are no different from those godawful live action-animated movie adaptations that plagued the 2000s and 2010s (Example: Radically different character designs, set in the real world, terrible jokes). I don’t like the Sonic movies, I think they try too hard to be hip and current, and the plots are ridiculous. Sorry, it’s my opinion.

To be fair, I think Alvin and the Chipmunks was already set in a version of earth, but I don't know the source material, so the existence of talking animals may have very well been an established fact rather than something anomalous in the original setting.

I'm a Sonic fan, and I don't like those movies. Sonic being in live action is such a stupid idea to me. Sonic should be animated, preferably 2D. The Sonic OVA is by far the best Sonic movie!

What separates the Sonic Movies from those other ones is that they actually feel like they were made with appreciation for the source material. The characters are integrated into the real world setting rather than being some Fat Albert "OWAh yuOR A CARtoooN YOU NOT REAL!!!" bullshit and the story is moreso about the character themself rather than them gawking at pop culture. Sonic 2 is a little more egregious and close to this IMO but otherwise they feel like actual SONIC movies. I'll take them over mid garbage like Sonic Prime or the Flynn's current direction for the mainline too, at least the movies allow the cast to have actual PERSONALITY lmao (until they inevitably fuck up Amy for the 4th movie but IRDC about that one, 3 was the perfect conclusion IMO).

A Sonic X live action version or Sonic Adventure film would be pretty inoffensive, given some of the characters are already normal earth humans.

Haven't seen any of the Sonic movies and not planning to. They seem to me like those 6/10 or 7/10 popcorn movies you just shut your brain off to like most Marvel stuff. People just praise them because the bar on video game movies were so low. Same goes for the Mario and Detective Pikachu movies.

I enjoyed the first one but I definitely agree with the comparison in the picture. Also I dropped the the second movie mid way through after that dance scene.

I definitely want to watch the third movie though, it seems they got they priorities right for that one.

Looking at screenshots I think Sonic still looks terrible. Just way better than that unholy terror they were planning to curse us with.

Not sure about the movies. But the 80s cartoon's backstory was that the Chipmunks' mother died and Dave raised them from infancy. This doesn't explain why the Chipmunks and the Chipettes are humanized. I don't think the 1960s series really went into much history. Because the original concept was just a novelty record.

Maybe it's a universe where chipmunks are just like people? I don't think kids were meant to ponder it too much. I highly recommend the 80s cartoon. I think it's the best version. Not sure if you can get it as a DVD set though. The music copyrights might be a problem.

I think eggman where great in first one but i dont like much series.

3 was a good parts like shadow and sonic scene but they changed whole personality of eggman grandfather!
