I don't know if this can be done on Xeno, but what the hell... just a shot in the dark.

I know that when you ignore a user, you don’t see them, but why can they still see you?
I wonder if there is a way that, if you ignore a user, it automatically makes them ignore you, and they can’t undo it. Some users as you know, bother specific other users just for the lulz, but if they were, say, getting ignored and couldn’t undo it, it would put a stop to it.

Basically, like muting each other from one end, where the person who ignores the other user could undo the ignore if they felt so inclined, but the user being ignored couldn’t undo it... just to see what the other user is posting.

I always thought it was odd that if you ignore someone, they can still see your posts.

Again dunno if it can be Done, just a shot in the dark.

I do hope that it can be a two way “ignoring” in a sense that I don’t see you and you don’t see me.

Believe it or not I ignored a few users and I learned from a Discord friend that they can still see my posts. The main reason I have them “ignored” is I really don’t want anything to do with them. But since they can still “see me” gives one an uneasy feeling at times even I’m the one who’s stepping away from trouble.

Its healthier that way when people who can't deal with each other don't have to see each other.
I also Ignored some users I found very disagreeable and Childish (not gonna call anyone out here).

Luckily most on here are good people and we may not agree on everything shocking I know yet we can still converse and debate like civilized people but sadly there are who some can't without gaslighting and Insults and dealing with such people can be exhausting to say the least.

So I believe in peaceful separation in such cases to defuse the Situation instead of further escalating it.

So I am with you on that Zerpina

I'm 100% for this, there's folks here I'd rather not quote or mention me, but they can still pester me despite that ignore.

We need to get rid of that "Show Ignored Content" button. I know of at least one user who we're on mutual forced ignore from mods with, and yet I can click that and see his posts, and he can still quote or respond to me despite being on force ignore, presumably the same way.

The ignore function just doesn't do enough at the moment.

AFAIK since I am in multiple forums which use Xenforo, its a limitation of Xenforo.

It just follows the principle of out of sight out of mind.

It expects the user to have some self-regulation, but god forbid.

This is what i was getting at.
If you Ignore someone, it should fully ignore them, as in they can't see you as well.
I mean your ignoring them for a reason

We supposedly don't have the feature not to replicate the "echo chamber" behavior of social media in the forums, as some of the staff folks have said previously...

I for myself think this wouldn't be a bad thing either, since we have nothing like a recommendation algorithm in the forums, it would actually prevent many of the minor conflicts we have here.

Personally I've chosen not to ignore anyone, but I also would like if the feature was available for those who want or need it. So, upvote.

If I'm being honest, talk with the mods if you have a specific issue with another user's posts and they'll likely work with you.

I'd prefer a better ignore function, but I'm guessing Xenforo doesn't support that. So if you're being harassed by another member, run it by a mod.

The "show ignored content" button should be removed since people can't control themselves. And two-way ignore should be a case-by-case basis, not default. It's possible with the Moderator Panel add-on.

I have a bunch of people on ignore. And the fact that you can click on this:

is making ignore pointless. Make it so that when you put a person on ignore, they can't see your posts & they go invisible/offline mode automatically on your end. You don't see their name at all.

That seems to be a tall ask when it comes to people + the internet. I've only blocked 2 people and that was because they are being a total jerk in replies, and I have zero temptation to press the "see this post" that other people seem to be upset about existing.

I think the XenForo devs themselves once said that this feature wouldn't be added because it'd go against the very principle of a forum... And I'm inclined to agree.

Now, granted, things have changed so much since the good, old phpBB days that it would make sense for this to change as well... People can be really hostile on the internet nowadays and the "unwritten rules" of communication have become the "forgotten rules", meaning that all civility has gone out the window and the very act of attacking is often rewarded as well. But, as much as forums have been trying to adapt to remain relevant (and even this one has all the bells and whistles of a social media experiment), I don't think any dev would be bold enough to cross this particular border.

You can miss out on a lot of threads (entirely if the OP is in your ignored list) by taking total control of it and it'd make the whole experience much poorer in your end.

It's definitely something to consider.

But still, the person that put a troublemaker on ignore mode will still have to deal with their bulls8it.

If it crosses tos admins will take care of it. If not, no harm really. That's why I don't have anyone on ignore, I'd rather see what everyone's saying.
