I was looking through my old drawings because a friend of mine began drawing and I want to encourage him he as all artist said that his art was bad and such so I began looking for my old drawing (I drawing on paper and I did draw a lot so I keep them in boxs so I don't get to see them often) and I thought I didn't improve from them because I got depressed and life got a bit Complicated but after seeing them I realized I did and by a lot but I did regres in others

I unfortunately can’t see myself improving due to my own disabilities while drawing. But I do think there’s truth to this.

If you think you didn't improve. You did

Nice saying! And it applies to all aspects of life. ?

That thing at the bottom center, which you can see in the last drawing, is that what I think? ☝️ ?

Although I don't know your Specific disability I think any drawing time is certain to improve your skills and you will find hacks and tricks that will help you that is if you draw for fun because that's how I learned just draw the things you want the way you want and everything will align eventually keep your head up and chest full friend

That's a nice and simple story, sometimes we just didn't notice how much we've improved. Because no matter how little, improvement is improvement!

No worries man, I'm sure you can still improve even with such disabilities

I can draw you if you want ::dkapproves

That’d be wholesome. Your stuff is always on point. I’d be humbled.

No just shape training because I forgot a lot of it

Improvement is not linear. Sometimes you go in circles several times until you give up or try something different. It also helps to watch people who know what they are doing.

Well said. ?

Yes of course if I learned anything from the years of drawing and this realization it's that you will and should go on as many circles as you can and leave the ones that don't work or you don't like
A quote comes to mind I don't know where I got it but it simply says that the people how know how to draw see the lines we use to guide us in there head and that comes from experience and dedication take that into consideration when you watch someone draw they see stuff you can't

Yeah, that was my main point. Drawing isn't always a process where we see consistent improvement. Every journey is different and some are more gifted than others, but from my experience it takes sometimes "going in circles" and creating some less than stellar work before "real progress" can be achieved. And for those who want to imitate a particular style and can't seem to achieve it, it is a normal experience. We all have our own tendencies or style that comes out unconsciously and it takes discipline to override that.

You know... I had a friend in that exact same situation, with the exact same mindset. We met on a forum I was administering when she was, I think, 12? She used to say that her art wasn't very good, that her writing sucked. She never gave herself credit... and you know what she's doing now? She's getting her degree in art in college, because even though she never realized it, she was very passionate about what she did and never stopped trying. We both knew at the time that the product on paper wasn't very good, but she put a decade worth of effort into her craft and now people buy what she makes because her raw talent was nurtured and shone through. I already know how this ends, so give yourself some credit, dude.
