Wow, pro investigative work, guys! Thanks a lot! Gotzendiener is in my backlog, I loved the concept of the hero already defeating the bad guy and now the princess has to rescue herself.

Dude its Bonk period! Hudson is like picking Konami characters for the Turbographx16 / PC Engine

I'd pick Bomberman. :) Bomberman '94 is super fun!

Given how much I played of it with my friends as a kid, and still feel a connection to, I have to give it to Bomberman to be a mascot! Although I DO remember playing some Bonk games back in the day, so I guess I did accidentally find a PC-Engine emulator when I was a kid, somehow. Not just the usual SNES and Mega Drive emulators.

Now, since playing Star Parodier and seeing the little PCE ship, I really like it too, and I wish they had come up with that idea sooner. They definitely could have made it a mascot prior to that game.

Yellow Bomberman, if only because his color scheme fits with the Hudson Soft logo better than White Bomberman's.

Bonk just kinda makes sense since he didn't have roots in games on other systems beforehand, but in hindsight I almost feel like they just didn't need a mascot. I remember those early commercials and they'd show you clips of Legendary Axe or whatever and it looked fun but mysterious like "what the hell is this cool thing?"

Though, I would almost agree with the post suggesting Valis since they leaned into the anime lady stuff earlier than other companies and Valis 2 was popular for a moment there, but Valis was on other systems first too.

opinions on Bonk seem to be split, and with the "console mascot" being a more important marketing factor in the west that division only further hurt the Turbografx sales. Who do you think would have made a better mascot worldwide? Let's keep this somewhat realistic by using games and franchises already tied to the PC Engine in some way (i.e. already has games on the console) Since the Bonk series didn't stay exclusive I don't think this new mascot has to be either, though that's mostly to keep the possibilities as wide as possible.

I think the most obvious candidates are some of Hudson's other characters:

another big face of Hudson, though the PCE only received one exclusive entry. Fits with the other console mascots being platformers

Momotarou​

While mostly unknown in the west, the Momotarou franchise is big in Japan. Being based off Japanese folklore, he may be considered "too Japanese" for the western market. Has 5 entries on the console
