if YOU had to choose a mascot for the PC Engine/Turbografx, who would you pick?

opinions on Bonk seem to be split, and with the "console mascot" being a more important marketing factor in the west that division only further hurt the Turbografx sales. Who do you think would have made a better mascot worldwide? Let's keep this somewhat realistic by using games and franchises already tied to the PC Engine in some way (i.e. already has games on the console) Since the Bonk series didn't stay exclusive I don't think this new mascot has to be either, though that's mostly to keep the possibilities as wide as possible.

I think the most obvious candidates are some of Hudson's other characters:

Bomberman

Very recognizable. Has a trilogy and spin off on the console

Master Higgins/Takahashi

another big face of Hudson, though the PCE only received one exclusive entry. Fits with the other console mascots being platformers

Momotarou

While mostly unknown in the west, the Momotarou franchise is big in Japan. Being based off Japanese folklore, he may be considered "too Japanese" for the western market. Has 5 entries on the console

Anyway what are your thoughts? This is mostly just an excuse to talk about PCE games again 😅 Here's some more Hudson characters for reference.

I think Turbografx really needed a decent mascot to speak to the "soul of Americans". In that context this guy could be a mascot:

Rick from Splatterhouse

Namco15.png

This guy could advertise Turbografx as a "killer video game console" that Americans can relate to like a bully victim kid playing Turbografx and this game, he is scared first but then he "man ups" so with confidence he gets he refuse being bullied, or this guy protects the kid from being bullied or something. Imagine an advertisement that pizza delivery guy makes a late pizza delivery and really doesn't care and this guy grabs the guy and sends him to space or something, something like a national hero lol.

The advertisements could be so crazy like the guy bring kid to a video game store via one of those American family cars, he even complains how slow the car is, some young kids driving fast cars and makes fun of the guy for his car and all. Then the guy's kid shows Turbografx. In the next scene they put the Turbografx onto a seat and from now on the car is so fast he easily passes the kids driving fast cars, even the cops and then he is faster than a plane, then we see the guy goes on around the world and eventually returns to the shop in a few seconds lol.

the parents couldn't even handle Mortal Kombat, They where NOT ready for Splatterhouse. :loldog
I get where you coming from though. Those "shock value" ad campaigns usually do pretty well in America. It would have at least got people talking. Maybe in that future Splatterhouse 2 & 3 where on the Turbografx instead.

Adol's a good pick. Ys Book 1 & 2 where impressive for the time. Could have been a real system seller if they pushed it more. Would have been many people's first experience with what a CD based game could bring to the table.
Johnny Turbo was simply too powerful for this world. Image if they actually gave him a game.

So many characters I don't know! Do you know who are the blonde girl with a sword on the top left, the pink and blue twins next to her and the blue-haired reporter?

The reporter is from the Momotarou Dentetsu games (the ones that play like Mario party). I'm not sure about the sword girl.

Personally I feel Adol would be a bit weird for a mascot since Hudson never owned Falcom. It’d be like if SEGA’s mascot was John Morris.

I vote that it should change on region. For JP, Yuna since cute girls are marketable and she has 2 games (3 if you want to count the distant cousin of the duology, Sapphire) on the PC Engine plus an anime and a lot of push in general.

Bonk would be a good option too, face of the console and all

For the West, probably Bomberman since the PC Engine famously flopped like a fish out of water, but Bomberman’s influence never really faded in the west. Sure he was still pretty obscure for a while but he’s the most fitting for a mascot in the west like how Sonic was for Sega.

Alternatively, the mascot could be, hilariously enough, the PC Engine itself.

They’d 100% have to Radicalify it though
