Wii If you could mod a Wii what would you add?

I really don't know if I can add anything to this conversation, but how about a pop-up or add-on screen, akin to a laptop or like the original PlayStation had?

That would be awesome for long car trips since some games can be played with a classic controller anyway.

I feel like the disc slot isn't really conducive to a car ride. There's too much potential for any sudden jerk or tilt to ruin the disc.

Fair point, but if it's modded and running games off a USB FD/SSD, it wouldn't matter anyway

i would have loved a cartridge slot for gb/gba games! it would have made an insane bang for your bucks console back then. one little unit able to play gb/gbc/gba/gamecube and of course wii games

I believe they used to make these when the Wii was big, there’s probably a few for sale on eBay but this the only one I could find https://www.ebay.com/itm/1772625914...MP5Yakjse3lIoyLC0CI1Esng==|tkp:Bk9SR9aMgdqAZg

Neat. I had no idea as I didn't get a Wii until some years after the Wii U came out.
So I didn't keep up with or know about much of anything regarding add-ons and the like.
I just wanted to mod the thing and play.... stuff I could have played on fifteen other machines I had at that time. XD

I would want to first repair mine but that beyond my capacities as I can surface solder :( So buying a new would be my only option. I wish I did not have as that was my best friends we he got when it came out and then he gave it to me so it´s a special wii for me.

But if I could fix it I would HMDI mod it and if possible make the Wii work like my PS2 load games from a hardrive instead of using discs. I mean I don´t mind using disc it´s less of a hassle but also makes the disc last longer with less wear and tear when used.

What’s wrong with it?

The good old WiiConnect24 causing microfractures in the BGA (ball grid array) of solder connecting the CPU/GPU to the system board. Which gives you artifacts on the pictures.

Either I switch the motherboard out, Get a new wii or maybe try re-solder it but I got no tools or knowledge on surface soldering.

Sure one could try stripping down the system board and baking it (similar to the video card baking) . It may or may not work but let me tell you that disassembling the Wii is an exercise in keeping one's sanity.

I have done repairs on wii´s allot before in my past line of work but never fixed a GPU issue.

Yikes. Yeah, between the weird sequence of a million tiny screws and that disc drive Wiis are a pain to get into. I wouldn’t risk baking a board, but I might do a hair dyer, so long as you’ve got a thermometer or a temp probe handy. I’ve never reballed anything either, but if it’s junk otherwise it might be worth a shot. Did you repair for a shop or just freelance? I just freelance.

NES, SNES, SMS, Genesis, GB, GBC, GBA, N64 games. Also that app to order pizza. :)
