in the first darth bane book, bane talks to his instructor about the different kinds of lightsaber weapons, and the advantage of the double bladed weapon is psychological as his teacher informs him. you make your opponent start overthinking while you are fighting and they start making mistakes very quickly; since they think that they are dealing with 2 weapons, and they aren't.
