I have a side hustle I've been doing for about a year now where I buy broken psp, I fix them, and sell them to give the console a second chance. I have some knowledge on how to repair them and if anyone needs advice or help just message me on the forum. Also i am about to fix my first Vita 1000 (3g version) so this is gonna be fun.

That's awesome man! Even though I don't have a PSP, I like to thank you for your contribution ::bigboss

I hope you have fun fixing your Vita!

The only thing that is a pain is that most the screens left for the 3000 have a bubble in the screen.

When repairing the screens I usually just replace them with a lcd screen from aliexpress. The seller I buy from hasn't given me any issues and the lcd replacement is great. Its the most affordable option but small downside is having to put new foam on the screen frame but most oem screens need those replaced by now anyway.

Hey man, great stuff keep helping people i was stuck with a issue on my psp with booting and some random guy online helped me and it worked, i hope you can help many people fix their problems

thanks for offering your help! i do have a question/issue with my psp, im having issues where my psp only stays powered on while charging the battery and back plate seem to be in fair condition? any suggestions?

I have a PSP 3000 with no screen and broken clips on the LCD and backlight cable connectors. You think you're up to the task of bringing that one back to life? I tried.... it didn't go super well. Mostly just maintaining a connection to the screen cable. Backlight isn't bad. It would work... until it settled into a spot where it no longer made contact. Tried tape, adhesives, all sorts of stuff to stop it from moving. Eventually I just gave up on it.

Either the battery is not connecting to the pins right or your battery is bad and needs replacing. What kind of battery is in your psp (oem or aftermarket)?
I suggest taking the battery out and put in making sure all pins have secure contact if that doesn't work you should get a new battery. Try putting pressure on the battery near mid-topish and power it on while putting some time pressure on the battery to see if that is the issue.

Best aftermarket battery to buy is OSTENT brand psp battery (1200 model lasts about 9 hours charged 1400 model last almost 12 hours charged) its cheaper to buy it from aliexpress but takes weeks to arrive or order from amazon (prime has two day shipping) for about $16. If that doesn't work then your battery connects needs replace and that requires souldering unless you order a complete motherboard for the psp model you own (best option for this is order a broken model of psp off ebay and swap the motherboard).

Hi mrpwingles thanks for the offering. I have a psp 1000 and it works just fine but it squeaks super loud when I put a UMD in and I'm not sure what I should do to stop that noise. Do you have any ideas?

thanks so much it seems like the pressure to the back plate didn't work so i will be on amazon ordering a new battery... the battery looks like an oem maybe refurbished the guy i bought it from told me he had to do a lot on it, I.E. soldering and shell swapping so im praying that he didn't brick it. The psp worked for about a week or two then only continued to work while charging. again thanks!!

It's probably the disc rubbing the case whilst spinning. That's a normal thing but if it still does it without the umd being inserted I suggest greasing the umd mechanism.

Best way to do this:
-Silicon grease for the rails and gears
-Sewing machine oil for the motors (only if motor needs it)

Two ways to fix it.
Option 1) replace the motherboard
-either buy a (for parts) 3000 that can turn on and functions you may be
lucky by taking the board from it and swapping it to your psp or order just the logic board

Option 2) Order new connectors that have broken and solder remove and replace them with the new ones (its a cheaper option but requires solder skill)

I recently got a 3000 in near perfect condition. The only issue is several of the buttons are loose due to tearing of the membrane. It's an easy fix, but I'm paranoid about stripping the screws. What advice do you have in regards to that? Is a 00 screwdriver suitable for removing the faceplate?

Not to be mean, but if you're offering a service, especially in the field of repairing something, "some knowledge" is not good enough. What if you break someone's PSP by accident? Are you willing to fully reimburse them, or just ghost them as I've seen people do on FB and TikTok to other people?

my PSP anilog stick has drift and does not input full left, my main question is do I just replace the analog stick or the connector piece from the mother board

Sadly i think mine is out of repair without needing some new components and it seems hard to fix.

Sd cart insert is kinda broke, doesn't read cards anymore, and the little click ( sorry for bad english ) that keep the sd cart locked in doesn't work anymore, it push the cart away and doesn't lock.

tried opening the psp to access this part but couldn't really do it ( fear of damaging too much as the access is not easy )

I think the rubber or something under my face buttons are ripped. My face buttons are all squishy now and the cross and circle buttons are highly inresponsive. I have to push it down hard for it to register for a couple of frames.

Note, my sister coated my PSP with glitter back when we were kids (the glitter is still stuck to the face buttons and analog pad) so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Any advice on what I should replace or will get a better chance buying a new one? Thanks in advance!

This is something I'm looking to do too, i just bought 2 psps which are not booting up at all, and i'm planning to swap in and out the parts with w a working psp i have to figure out which component is faulty.

the two psps are odd, i assume that there cld be 3 possible reasons theyre not working in increasing severity:

1. the power supply board is faulty, in which case, replace
2. the super capacitor is faulty, in which case, remove or replace. seems like soldering is required
3. the motherboard is faulty, in which case i am screwed.

one of the psp i assume is the super capacitor the way it boots up sometimes and gets to the xmb and then dies, the other one has the green power light flash once for a split second before becoming unresponsive when i plug in a power supply or try to turn it on

i have a third psp i'm currently working on which is on pro c infinity or something and i wonder if i should install ark4 instead but i need to research on how and if it's possible at all. saw a thread earlier today on reddit that someone kinda bricked their psp trying to do that.

also it boots up really slow so i'm thinking if i replace the sd card will it be better cos iirc it's a no-brand sd card. probably slow read/write issues

Chief, how long does that battery you recommended actually last? I read the reviews on Aliexpress, and some say it lasts less than their old one, some say it lasts about 3 hours, others up to 7 hours or even more. In short, is it worth the risk of buying it, with shipping time of a month or more? Have any experiments or online tests been done on the actual duration of these Ostent-somethings?

valid but he's only giving advice on what he has done before and what has worked for him.
i assume that since he's only offering help and he says that his side hustle is buying broken psps for restoration, not offering repair services for a fee

the call to take the advice and its risks is on the owner of the psp
plus there is no way for him to remotely verify that the advice was carried out exactly the way he meant it. if the owner cld've botched the job and blame his advice

Hey , thanks for that very explanatory video. That guy almost cut off his finger opening and studying the various battery brands out there. ? To my surprise, the famous Cameron Sino batteries are not as efficient as they say, rather on the same level as some cheap ones. The Ostent seems to be the best, not only in terms of duration, but also in terms of greater weight and quality of materials used. The problem is that there are also counterfeit copies out there, even on Aliexpress. For now my original battery still works, then I'll opt for that one, I think. ?

It sounds like the membrane that holds the buttons together is failing.

Assuming there isn't an issue with the contact below the buttons this can be fixed by acquiring new ones and simply swapping them out.

Just be careful about which buttons you buy since there are differences between the 1,000, 2,0000, and 3,000. Try and buy oem in good condition since the consensus seems to be that aftermarket parts feel noticeably worse.

Which model do you have? If you have a 1,000 I believe you can buy a new membrane and keep the old buttons if you like. If you own anything later than that you'll have to buy new buttons since they're built into the membrane.

It's a 1000 model, the umd slot is still functional too!

Thank you for your help! I'll buy a new set of membranes at a local shop!

@mrpwingles just bought 2 psp that arent working and one of them doesnt turn on at all, and the other does, but only for a few seconds.

i tried swapping out the power supply, i assume it's the wire with the big white connector attached to the yellow charging port and the small pcb for the power switch. that doesn't work. i checked the super capacitor it doesn't look rusted or anything but do you think it could be the super capacitor? also if it is, should i just take it out ?
