First off, I love Spike for creating CDRomance and want to support him 100% in his endeavors !!!

One of the great things about CDRomance is that you can obtain fully, prepatched romhacks (and translations) without the hassle of going through the patching process.

Having such an issue myself recently, I thought that surely RetroGameTalk, since they distribute prepatched hacks, that they should have some technical expertise in this area, and so I jump on Discord, only to find out that the server has vanished ? No big deal, some salty "competitor" probably reported them & got them banned, so instead, I simply post to the "Romhacking" forums. No help forthcoming, so I'm reading around and there's absolutely NO discussion of "romhacking" at all.

All of the talk is about different Romhacks, but no technical discussion at all. So, I think to myself, "no big deal, I'll just post a suggestion". NOPE: it appears that suggestions are disabled for new users ? So, not only are new users not welcome to post suggestions, but actual romhackers are not welcome either, because, for all intensive purposes, they don't have a space and an area of their own because the designated forum is drowned out by posts such as "What is your favorite romhack" ? While those kinds of posts are absolutely interesting and valuable, they don't belong in an area designated for technical discussions.

Hence, I think the current area should be a renamed "Romhacks Talk" and a new area should be created for Programming and actual Hacking.

you get the ability to do more stuff by getting levels. i'll get you a link to the levels thread in a moment.

here you go, this explains the level system:

Welcome, bro!
Just keep commenting on threads and you'll be able to post suggestions.
You need 25 messages, exactly.

If you don't see a thread already talking about what you want create your own whether it be over reaching or more specific and even if another user makes a duplicate thread they will be merged. I am sure some of the users would like to talk about that.

Edit: if you don't see a proper location just post the thread anywhere and mods will help sort it out.

I don't understand the limitations neither. I only asked my account the be "activated" on Patreon because I already supported and found that Facebook level system annoying.

I'm willing to post the suggestion in your name if you want. It seems reasonable.

Its to encourage activity with earned perks. I mean its better than a Poster Pass that you pay 9.99 per season and get unlocked perks with your post counts, or rgt nitro where you pay 9.99 to be able to customize. Do keep in mind this is fairly new and I believe they are still open to improvements if things can be done better the worst they can say is no, but like you said if you cant post in suggestion you will just have to dump it here or wherever.

edit: I will report this thread for hopefully quicker mod attention for assistance.

Thanks for the help, but how are you guys distributing prepatched ROMs if nobody has the technical expertise to solve various patching issues (like mine) ? It reminds me of the GoodTools Sets where the primary complaint was that they had so many BAD romhacks because someone patched them incorrectly. And it kinda worries me that the same thing is happening here too ?

You don't seem to have actually described your issue anywhere. How do you expect help when you won't even say what your problem is?

I understand your sentiment, but thats one of the joys of cdromance now RGT for me. I can scratch my head and eventually figure out how to apply a patch if I don't already know how, but @Spike usually has anything I can want already patched and hosted, so he definitely knows how to do it as well as the teams who make the patches on github. I have tried many translation patches and all have worked as intended from here. As for rom hacks I have not messed with as much, but if it is bad it is probably because of the team who made it rather than the one who applied the patch for this site.

Edit: If you insist on doing patches yourself, why not just stay on github where the teams that develop them reside and explain how to apply and have troubleshooting tools where you can talk directly to the team to document and fix issues?

You guys have a top notch forum (compared to others that I've seen).

But if there's no place specifically to talk about technical issues, like romhacking, and by extension, patching (as opposed "What's your favorite Romhack"), then Imma just head back to Discord.

If anyone needs help with patching, I'm glad to help:

all of the romhacking stuff is in this part of the forum:
if you want, you could start a thread about the stuff that you are interested in.

You could always say hello in every intro post. It racks up posts overtime and it's nice to people new to forum culture that didn't grow up with it in early web culture.
There was no incentives nor even obligations to rack up posts in forums of the early web culture, tho.

There's a good rationale to keep a section of the forum for purely technical stuff exempt of the social game.

There are places we just don't have many members that do and talk about it yet because it is fairly new. Its actually funny that you're even complaining about this because a lot of the patched works @Spike provides still have the readmes from the patches included and even those folks are very very clear that they do not like distro post patch content and while we would be fortunate to have teams using our site most of those people don't agree with us either. You can't have yoir cake and eat it too.

Not only that but the game pages link back to the site with the original patch. It always seems extremely self entitled to come and complain and demand things from people that put in work to make and share emulation related stuff with everyone. It's the kind of hobby where you really expect people to be able to figure things out and people are usually happy to help or accommodate newbies to the hobby or people who are struggling if they come across as polite.
