hi guys i use to be obsessed with gaming to the point it probably wasn't healthy lol

but these days i can only play games that are brain dead in nature aka u just mindlessly go with what is flashing on screen

any tips on getting back into the groove?
i miss gaming lol am i just unc now

ps im esl sorry grammar and such

Any kind of extreme is bad. I wouldn't worry about it. It's a natural process that usually comes with age. You start to realize that there are tons of other things you can do for fun. To be honest, I feel the same way. Games tire me out. Okay, maybe not so much the games themselves as the whole process of figuring them out. I don't want to waste my time on it and I don't feel the need to anymore, because somewhere in the back of my mind I know that it's completely pointless, that I get nothing out of it. That's why I no longer touch games that require hundreds of hours of active and engaging thinking, but instead play games like Desktop Dungeons or Transport Tycoon. I forgot to add, I'm a year away from turning 50 ;)

EDIT: Im more into collecting, rather than playing now ;)

mix it up. A backlog with too many titles can make you overlook them individually. Check out an indie title here n there. Try different stuff or stuff that looks fun to you. Or take a break from it. Switch up the consoles. Try a console you never touched before.

Have you tried going back to those games that you really loved?
That’s exactly what I do every once in a while having those little tidbits that gave you those emotions while playing.
ye sadly i just have fun for a day then back to blah lol

I'd recommend playing things that feel so natural to you, you can even enjoy them while doing other stuff.

Quite famously, I took Polish lessons and listened to podcasts while playing GTA -- If there's any game at all that sounds like it'd work like that for you, then that's the key.

think i got this way when i started playing rust lol if u know rust u will know lol

aka why do i hate my self haha

honestly im kinda in a similar spot. all i can really say is try out what appeals to you. maybe a personal favorite youve already played numerous times before or an older title thats easy to pick up and play. thats usually what i do for my gaming needs nowadays

Ahh I get that feel when I open up Skyrim for the 48th time this year, I say take a look at RGT Nostalgia Society threads, they had PS1 selections so far and while I still need to finish it Vagrant Story really tickled my brain of just learning a system all over again. I say even returning to Ico or Shadow of the Colossus can be a big reset even if you've finished them before the controls remind you that you do have to think again and that isn't so automatic as it once was.

never played vagrant story but it is on my list

i sadly always end up back on rust or marvel rivals like i spend time looking at my games and like i wonna play this and that but then like bah i cant be assed then go back to the grind lol

It's always the first hour that's hard of starting but trust me it gets better and you start feeling like a gamer than just an addict to the easy hit of daily tasks and same progression goals.
ye i do daily tasks too often lol

i do wonder if it is due to my brain damage

i use to be in army and have had a big woopsie that gave me brain damage and has lead to random spouts of confusion anxiety and blah

its almost like i get anxiety about starting a new game lol

Honestly, I don't see the issue here. If you enjoy multiplayer time sinks like Rust and Marvel Rivals there's nothing wrong with that, you're still playing games, you know. Gaming is supposed to be fun, a passion, not a thing you force yourself into enjoying. I bet there are other things in your life that make you constantly search for motivation to keep going, so don't turn gaming into another one of those. I was really into multiplayer games in my Dota 2, Call of Duty and then World of Warcraft phase that took a lot of years from my life, but I moved on eventually and I think it just happens naturally. So I'd say don't sweat it and play what you actually want to play and dont feel guilty about it.

I'm no expert but basic psychology has told me people really like predictability to not be surprised and fall into habits on instinct and learning to unlearn a habit is process that many find daunting in the stability lost in familiar rhythms. So that sounds pretty normal to me, it's why I have a backlog, I'm too tired to learn a new game, I just want instant fix and then feel bad about the hundreds of games I bought or roms stocked with no intention of fixing that until a thread said hey check this game out. Did I change? For a day or two but I felt like a gamer again.

Gaming can be a powerful addiction. That's why I fight it as hard as I can. And here's the question: how is that possible? Are games addictive? Yes, they are. Just like heroin. They affect and stimulate specific parts of the brain responsible for a whole range of emotions, from euphoria to anger. If something is capable of forcing a person to deprive themselves of sleep, give up their studies, or quit their job just to be able to use it, then you have to ask yourself if it's worth it. Don't think that I'm judging anyone—I'm not. It's good that this topic has come up, because maybe it will make someone think twice before losing themselves in this modern slavery. Slavery from which corporations derive incredible profits. While imposing THEIR way of thinking on us.

i feel like it's only natural. as we get older, we get more responsibility, pressures and general mental fatitgue. have you tried going back to older games? seeing how those are, and maybe you're burnt out from years of media consumption, maybe take a step back for a bit and use it as a chance to perhaps search for games that'd interest you but also letting you find other things to keep you occupied in the mean time

blah

lol so i often fight my own brain to do shit

Yep that what happened to me the two years ago that I wasn't able to play anything that year instead I just watch a bunch of anime

Then a start of 2024 Where One of YouTube video is Sonic Cd op (jap ver) I was hype then download the whole Sonic Games on Mega drive since then I love playing games again.

A tale as old as time. This happens for several reasons:

1. All you do is play videogames: that's your brain telling you to stop and do something different. It's normal. Change hobbies for a while. Find a job. Meet old and new friends. Travel. Do something.
2. You play the same constantly: you'll hear gamers say that game isn't as fun as it used to be and when you ask them what they play, they'll say shit like Call of Duty or Fortnite.
3. You're getting older: sad, but also a possibility. As you get older, you get new objectives or have new ocupations. It's okay.
4. The way you experience gaming no longer satisfies you: this is more abstract, but the easiest way I can explain it is: don't bother with achievements, don't play games that you're actually not interested in just because you bought them years ago and take your time. Play only games that you really want to play, such as games that you look back on fondly. Sometimes, all you need is that one special game that rekindles that passion.
5. It's just not the time: just wait it ou and you'll be back at some point.

At the same time, if you ARE simply falling out of love with games... is it THAT big of a deal? I mean, yeah, it's kind of sad not doing something that you used to do before but it's not that important. Maybe it's time to do those things you always wanted to do but couldn't because you thought gaming was more interesting (going back to point 1). Try learning that new language. Or learn that instrument. And what about joing activities that are somewhat social? I leave it up to you.

The real problem is when it's not only gaming, but ANY activity. That's probably a sign of depression that you should treat as soon as possible. Life CAN be beautiful. You can do it.

You still love it, it's just new "games" are not a game lol. Probably your preference for the concept of "game" changed.

But also you probably have different interests now too. For example I spend most of my free time making digital painting and such. I used to even hate drawing!!!

What changed? Well naturally as you live your active genes change as in the nature of your already active genes to some active genes shut down to some inactive genes gets activated and then as you get old how your cells behave changes and all so naturally the chemical reaction pattern of your body changes therefore even your taste in food changes!!! Not to mention what you know changes the reality your brain generates so your POV and what you can comprehend and what you believe in changes that also changes how you understand your life. Well it's only natural.

But I can say what changed for me regarding this topic is what I play with changed so I'm still a gamer but with a difference!! Being a gamer is in my genes that will always be active no matter what because it's the rules of nature, Jack!!! Left hand rules!!! However I like to use the whole world as my "playground" instead!!1 *evil laugh moment* lol

Learn to use your brian, not just relax.
I got into hardware, software modding/tweaking/hacking/emulation/gaming is always fun after 75% thinkering and then 25% playing is Archievement1...
